18 mos post TX and UNDIE

Just got the results of my 18 mo post treatment test and I'm still negative.  I had a 6 mo post treatment test which was negative and, at that time, my doc told me he didn't want to test me again until one year after that (rather than one year after treatment ended) which is why it ends up being an 18 mo post treatment test.

Geno 1b, 48 wks SOC, RVR 4 wks

Feeling great --  some minor hypothyroidism which is remedied by a once a day pill, joint aches which are greatly minimized my lowering carbs (which I only just discovered the correlation recently).  My hair is back to normal so I'm now going to try to grow it out a bit instead of trying to mimic Jamie Lee Curtis.  :)

Tippyclub and skersj...so good to hear from you both!  Yes, I will always especially remember those who were in TX around the same time as me.  We held each other together.  Also, glad to hear that you both are UND!

Tippy...my doc's NP told me to have another one in a year but I'm not so sure I'm going to do that.  I'm not sure it's necessary.  After 2 tests showing me negative within an 18 month time frame seems pretty darn good to me for closing the book.  BTW...I look at my bonfire pics every now and then to remind myself that I burned that dragon good...lol.

Skersj...I kept my hair short for two reasons...(1) it was easy and (2) because I was still having some fall out problems.  Seems that my hair would only grow to about an inch or two and then would fall out so I really couldn't grow it much longer.  But now that trend seems to have stopped and I'm going to tough it out through the awkward phase and let it grow some.  A cut every 3 weeks to keep the JLC look is too much for me too.  :)

I wish you both the best and thank you for being here.

Congratulations Meakea!  I am soooo happy for you! I was treating at the same time you were. I had to go on to 72 weeks until Jan 2010. I am glad I logged on today to see this great news. I logged on to post that I just found out last week that my one year post tx pcr is undedected. I am hypothyroid also and take the little pill every morning but doing ok otherwise except for those aches and pains. Thanks for posting about the lower carbs; I will try it. Oh yeah, I am growing out my Jamie Lee Curtis haircut also. I started to keep it because it was so easy but once my hair started growing, I had to go get a cut too often so I grew it out.

Hi meakea--glad to read your good news!  I remember going through tx with you and will never forget your bonfire picture when you finished tx, that was great.

I was UND at my one year post PCR and never plan to have another one because if it does come back I will never do tx again-ever.

Glad to hear your hair is back -I remember your before and after pictures of your hair.  Remember I bought a bunch of hats and you bought wigs?  No need for hats anymore as my hair grew back thicker than ever.

Take care!

Thank you Pam...  My gray definitely took a boost from the tx meds too, in fact, I think all the new hair that has filled in is gray and I didn't really have any gray before.  Oh well it comes with the age territory...lol.

I don't think they had any reasoning so to speak for waiting until 18 mos...I think they just didn't realize that a one year post treatment test is supposed to be one year after treatment ends; not one year after the 6 month post treatment test.  I was going to argue with them when they told me that the next test would be one year after my 6 mo test but I decided to save myself the breath and just wait.  Really it didn't make any difference and it did allow me to "forget" about it for a year.

Congratualtions on the great news!! What was the reason your doc wanted to wait until 18 month - did he say?

I kinda ended up in a similar situation - slightly hypo (one pill a day for now) and some joint issues which seem to be lessening, especially after starting the synthroid, for some reason - unless it's merely coincidental. Interesting about the carb correlation for you. Now 8 months post plus the thyroid meds, hair is now growing in gloriously thick. Hasn't done a thing for the gray tho....:-D

Enjoy life to the fullest! Pam
