preparation for biopsy

I have my biopsy coming up in a week. I wanted to ask, if you stopped taking blood thinning supplements like Vitamin E, fish oil and selenium, garlic pills, cayenne etc. before the biopsy.

I have read that one should stop these and certain meds like aspirin two weeks before SURGERY. (I am NOT taking any medication, so I am ONLY asking about supplements) So I am wondering how this would apply to a liver biopsy.

What is your experience with this?

Thanks for any input.

Gotcha....

Just kidding. It's going to be the head doctor doing it himself.  I'm obviously in the best hands!

I went to have the preliminary blood work done today and asked the doctor who would be preforming the biopsy tomorrow.... Guess what he said?  A student doctor!!!

I was told to stop any supplements that I may be using, prior to the biopsy.  Also, I was told that if I took any kind of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), or aspirin, that I should not take it for 10 days prior to the biopsy.  I don't usually take NSAIDS or aspirin anyway, so that wasn't an issue for me.

ROFL... ha ha ha

I'll be fine lying on my right side. It's my favorite position to sleep in anyways. I wish they would send me home the same day though. But they don't do it here. I guess they want to be sure that nothing happens to their patients. Well, at least it's good to know that they make good use of our tax money.

I really don't want to think about the results until I get them. That would  definitely be getting a bit nerve wrecking to be worrying about something one can't do anything about anyways. I don't want to get into that mode.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone!

Marcia

Good luck with your biopsy, it really is over SO fast and then there's the waiting.  The hardest part is laying on your side for the four hours or so  For all the apprehension and mental buildup that goes into it, they should really create artificial sound effects like enormous sucking sounds when they push the plunger in and the doc should say "oops!" at least once or something followed by a "just kidding!"

You'll do just fine ... sounds like you're making it an event and why not, eh?  :)

Here's hoping for good results, Marcia.

29th  I go in for blood work and go home
30th  I have the biopsy in the morning
31st  The send me home in the morning

So no going home on the day. I will have to ask my hubby to come with some food, 'cause there is not way I will eat that hospital food, being vegetarian and all.  I'll just pack a whole lot of apples and healthy goodies to munch on. :-)
