No, they are always very close to the same spot below the knuckle, usually on the 2nd or 3rd section of my index finger. A reoccurance will happen eventually. I usually have an outbreak on my finger once or twice a year.
Yes whitlow is usually a once off issue. So I'd agree that the lack of blisters is suggestive of whitlow moreso than genital.
Hence no real point waiting for an outbreak of HSV2 on your finger, it will probably never happen.
However whitlow HSV2 is extremely rare; it is a weak virus away from the genitals.
Were the blisters above the knuckle?
Thank you for the info. I talked to my Dr today and we will be waiting for an outbreak on my finger to culture it. In the meantime... If I have had hsv 2 since the blisters popped up, which would be 15 years ago, is it common to go that long with no outbreaks or symptoms?
This would indicate that you are infected with the HSV2 virus. I have assumed that the positive cut off point is 1 or 1.1, let us know if this is not the case.
It is still on the balance of probabilities likely to be a genital infection. Whitlow occurs most typically around the finger nail only. If you had blisters above the knuckle then this most probably was not HSV1/2.
Ok I have the results. I dont know exactly what you need so I am going to put everything I think is pertinent.
Hsv 1+2 ab serum
Hsv 1 GLYCOPROTEIN G AB, IGG .13
HSV 2 GLYCOPROTEIN G AB, IGG 16.18
HSV 1/2 COMBINED AB, IGM .98
Hope this is what you need.
Ok. I understand now. I will get those results and post back once I have them. Thank you for your help.
You need to obtain whether it was an IgG or IgM test and what were the numerical values.
I did get the actual results. They showed me being positive and in the middle of an outbreak.
Take a step back and get the actual results. Those medical checkups cause more issues than they are worth in respect of HSV owing to wrong tests and false positives.
Also... What are the chances this is whitlow?
