Blisters near the base of my penis

About a week ago I noticed a small patch of skin with what looked like 3 or 4 small blisters at the base of my shaft.  I popped them and they are now a rectangular cut on the base of my penis where it joins my scrotum.  There is no itching or severe pain but the cut has not healed and it has been a week.  I have not had any sexual contact in over a month so I wonder if this could be herpes?  I have heard so many mixed opinions on the internet so it is hard to find a straight answer.  Around the cut there appear to be some infected hair follicles but I wonder if that can be caused by herpes.   Does herpes not occur in or around hair?  Do first outbreaks usually spread or get worse?  Is there any way to rule out what it may or may not be with the information provided?  I know herpes manifests itself in many ways with different people.  Any information would be useful.

Infections can make you itch.  Fungal infections can make you itch.  Really there is not a way to say "if it does this it is herpes."  sorry.  You need to see a doctor if an when it reoccurs.

What about the itching and pain?  Are those both common symptoms of herpes infection?  Obviously the cut was tender to the touch but it was not painful when not being irritated or itchy.

Actually most things in the genital area will take about a week or so to heal fully. The length of time they take to heal is pretty meaningless as far as if they could be due to herpes or not.

At this point since things are healed, not really too much you can do. You can seek out a type specific herpes igg blood test anytime after 3 months after you last had sex or if you get a return of symptoms, be seen promptly.

There seems to be so much contradictory information on this subject all over the internet.  Some places say puss filled pimples others say it only effects hairless areas.  My biggest concern is the fact that it took a week to heal.  Most normal infections do not last that long.  Also, is itching/pain supposed to be associated with herpes?  Wouldn't the infection spread if I had popped the blister?

You should see your provider for a proper work up. Bumps could be anything.  Given you popped them they might not be able to do much.

If you get a repeat of symptoms be seen within 24-48 hours.
