Can this be genital herpes

I have been in a monogamous relationship for 7 years and am positive my partner has been faithful. I am ashamed to admit it but I strayed on 6/20 while in Las Vegas where I had a one time encounter with a CSW.  This encounter included uncovered oral, she rubbed her vagina over my penis uncovered for approximately30 seconds and finished with 2 minutes of covered vaginal sex.  The following week I noticed a cyst above my penis which was later seen by a doctor who said it was nothing.  The only other symptom that I could think back to was that I had a hemoroidal incident approximately 4 weeks after exposure.  Based on my reviewing of this site it appears unlikely to have been a primary herpes outbreak as I have seen Dr. H state that heterosexual primary outbreaks will occur for a male on the penis and other locations would only occur in recurrent outbreaks.  Outside of this, I have had no other symptoms.

I put my concerns to rest until my long time and faithful girlfriend recently had a possible primary outbreak at her inner thigh.  She also had a headache, swollen lymph node in her groin and some leg pain.  Her rash and all symptoms cleared in less than two weeks.  I am thinking this wasn't a herpes outbreak because of its location but I decided to get tested anyway as my anxiety has gotten the best of me and I couldn't get over it if I transmitted this to her.

At 82 days (2 days less than 12 weeks) I went to my doctor and received took a HSV IGG 1 & 2 herpeselect AB blood test.  After 3 days of incredibly high anxiety, I received back my results.  Results were hsv 1 igg negative .3 and hsv 2 igg negative .32.

Due to my low risk due to a one time exposure, my symptoms not being inline with what I have read here, my gf's rash location (not common for a primary outbreak) and my negative hsv test at 12 weeks I am asking is it safe to assume that genital herpes isn't the issue here?  Thanks in advance for your respected opinions.

During a recurrent outbreak, do sores appear over time?  Or do they all appear at once?  Is the skin fold of the groin and thigh a likely place for an outbreak?  Please help

I believe it is somewhat less than 10% would seroconvert according to a commercial test after 12 weeks and some of these people would have an elevated reading.

You are more likely to be one of the 10% of people that do not test positive for HSV1 even though they are infected that to seroconvert from this time point.

It is more likely all up though that you do not have HSV.

Your partner's symptoms would not rule out a primary or otherwise herpes outbreak, primary outbreaks can be mild. Again under the circumstances you could be readily reading too much into this.

If you are considering anther test, look into Westernblot for additional comfort.

Fleetwood, first off, thank you for replying to my question so quickly.  A couple of questions for you.

Do you think I should retest at a later date?  I have read on this sit that 90% of people seroconvert by 12 weeks while the other 10% may go as far as six months.

Do you agree that my gf's rash being on her inner thigh and not being on both sides of her genitals would indicate that if it was a herpes outbreak, it was not a primary outbreak?  She was tested prior to us getting together and her tests were negative at the time.  There is no chance that she strayed, I just know it, so if it was a herpes outbreak, I am guessing I gave it to her.

In life we all learn by experience and I certainly learned to never stray again.  I just hope that her and I don't have to pay the price for the next few years before a cure is available.

You are negative for HSV2 to a high degree of certainty. Potentially less so for HSV1 owing to 1/10 infections being missed (and this was the main risk seeing you have unprotected oral and it is quite common).

Most likely the situation is just been exacerbated by your guilt. Nevertheless your partner should consider getting tested. Although quite unlikely you have a genital infection and have infected her recently, she may have a longer term genital infection she was not aware of and have not passed to you. This is not as uncommon as you may think.

For you, get yourself a swab if any sores appear downstairs.
