Can you have both HSV-1 genetial & oral herpes

I met someone and had unprotected BJ and vaginal sex, also kissed few times. After two weeks experience tingling sensation on penis and slight pain. Got tested for std panel after 4 days initial symptoms and HSV-1 came back positive. Started taking medication. Saw red rash on penis after a week of initial symptoms. I didn’t have any symptoms around lips or mouth initially. But started to feel tingling sensation around lips and lips dryed up around 10 days after initial symptoms on penis. No rash or out breaks nera lips.

Did i get infected with HSV-1 at both oral and genetial locations. I read that one type of HSV can affect and live at only one location. In future will I be contagious and can infect others from both genetial and oral region..??

You can have both, but what kind of test did you have? Did you get an actual numerical result with it?

It takes up to a few months to develop antibodies, so at 4 days, if you were positive for hsv1, that was a pre-existing hsv1 infection. It takes a minimum of 2 weeks to develop antibodies.

Statistically, that would be an oral infection, but the blood test can only tell you that you have it, not where.

Has a doctor seen the rash?

HSV Type 1-Specific Ab, IgG  - 3.23

Test is taken 18 days after having unprotected sex. After 14 days i noticed symptoms on genetial area. Rash developed around 20 days on penis.
I am experiencing tingling sensation now and then on lips from 21st day but no visible symptoms or rash on lips. No, I haven’t seen a doctor yet.
So that's a pretty low positive. You should test again at 6 weeks or later, and see if that number has increased. It's hard to say now if that was pre-existing or if it's new.

Your rash - is it blisters? Redness? Something else? You really should let a doctor see it, and see if there is anything they can culture, or do a PCR swab on.

A tingling sensation can be anything, including anxiety.

Rash is redness and didn’t see any blisters. I took a over the phone consultation and started using medication. I am in a mixed boat to see a doctor as it would complicate things personally. I am really worried if its oral herpes as it will be clearly visible and higher possibility to spread to my closed ones without knowing when the virus shedding happens.
Can you see a doctor and self pay?

What medication did they give you? Is it working?

You say loved ones - if this is genital herpes, the only way you can transmit it is sex. If it's oral herpes, the only way to transmit it is mouth to mouth kissing. If you are concerned about kids, just don't kiss them on the mouth.

If you are talking about a regular partner, chances are good that she/he already has it. 50% of people under 50 in the US have hsv1.

Redness without blisters is unlikely to be herpes. It could be an allergic reaction, dermatitis, a fungal infection, or a wide variety of other things.
I got Valacyclovir and taking two per day from past 3 days. I didn’t see any improvement yet. I didn’t have any STD before and this is the first time I didn’t this stupid mistake. So as i had slightly painful and tingling rash on genetial area matching herpes symptoms and positive hsv-1 blood work. I am thinking  its herpes.

Can you spread HSV 1 by kissing infants or kids on cheeks or foreheads..? This is what my grave fear . I do not have any rash or blisters on mouth, but worried it might be infected on lips as well with tingling sensation.

Infants - not newborns? I wouldn't kiss a baby who hasn't yet had time to develop any kind of immune system, but a baby over 6 months old should be fine. The skin on their cheeks and foreheads is too think for the virus to penetrate.

Also, with covid, we should all be careful about kissing little ones.

You tested positive at 18 days. That's still really early - 2 weeks is the absolute minimum to test positive, and it's hard to say whether this is a new infection or not. Try really hard to not panic, okay?

3.7 BILLION people under 50 globally have oral hsv1. The number goes up even more if you add in grandparents. They are kissing their babies. The vast majority of people don't know it, and aren't infecting their babies.

Don't deprive your kids of a kiss because of this.
