What levels of HSV 2 is considered high ?

I was tested for HSV 2  Igg in January 2011 and results were positive 2.77. I was again tested for HSV 2 Igg in February 2012 and the results were positive 3.83. I have not felt any symptoms since my first testing.

During the time between my first testing in January 2011 to February 2012 I was not sexually active.

Why do I have different results even when I am not sexually active?
What level of infection is normal and what level is dangerous?

What is spinal PCR DNA test to detect HSV 2 ? Where is it performed in USA?
Please advise.

Grace is correct - my information was erroneous, and I thank her very much for her politeness in pointing it out.

the WB tests for both hsv1 and hsv2.

it'll run you about $200 total to have it done.

the WB is done at every quest lab in the US. too bad your local quest labs didn't take the time to check their send out labs to the U of washington to get the proper information you needed to do this easily for you.

please disregard catinbarefeet's erroneous information about herpes test results also.

I finally found a Quest Lab who is going to do WB for me. Are they going to test me for HSV 1 or HSV 2 or both? Anyone knows how much does WB cost?

You can coordinate with the University of Washington (where the WB is sent to from the lab) to get the Western Blot done. Not sure why your Quest lab is saying they don't offer it; they're the only lab chain that does. Here it is on their website:
http://www.questdiagnostics.com/testcenter/OrderInfo.action?fn=34534.html&labCode=MET

It would in fact be the next step in your testing, as Grace stated. The 2011 CDC guidelines recommend the Western Blot to confirm a low positive. You could test over and over again for years and be a low positive with IgG, no need to waste your time further with it.

Here is the UofW website with contact info as well if Quest is not helpful:

Hi Purseparty - no need for the Western Blot. Most modern herpes experts cite the IgG type-specific blood tests including Quest Labs' IgG tests, and the HerpeSelect Immunoblot as being the most accurate of the currently available blood tests.

An IgG positive for HSV is anything over 1.09. Your antibody count is rising as your body generates more and more of them to combat the virus as time passes. My husband's current IgG antibody # is over 9.0. He got the virus when he was in his late teens or early 20's.

If you want to write me directly, I can direct you to the American Social Health Association's guide to accurate HSV blood tests, and to another very good publication for basic HSV information, written by one of the foremost herpes experts in the country.

Thank you grace for the information.

I am in IL and called Quest lab by my house to make an appointment and they said they don't offer Herpes WB # 34534. I called another Quest Lab and they told me the same.
I called Lab Corp in my area and they said they offer HSV immunoblot blood test # 138487 and it takes about 2-3 days to get results.
Is this the right test by Lab Corp that I need to take?
Please advise.

If you are in the US, your provider can order the herpes WB through any local quest lab. It's test#34534

Thanks for the explanation.
Where do I get WB test done? I called my lab and they don't do WB test. Do my physician need to order the WB test for me?

Most studies believe that results under 5 might be false positives, so they are refered as "low positives". It's not related to degrees of infection - a 6 or a 20 will only mean that someone is positive, not that his/her infection is more "dangerous".
As Grace already told you, you need the WB to confirm your results.

it's not something that would be remotely useful for your situation dear.  you don't need it done.

Hi Grace,

What is spinal PCR DNA test for HSV ?
Where is this test performed and does it reveal absence or presence of virus?

you do not need a spinal pcr test done.

your results are both low positives and need confirmed with further testing. We recommend a herpes Western blot ( wb ) blood test for this to see if your low positive is a true positive or a false positive.
