Can you get a copy of your test and what it says exactly?
There are lots of different possibilities here. You could be positive for type 1, or type 2, or both.
You could have a combination test that gives you results like, "HSV1 & 2 IgG positive", but all that tells you is that you could have type 1 (usually oral), type 2 (usually genital), or both. It doesn't tell you which one you have.
You could have a type specific IgG test that will give you a numeric result for each type. If you got below a 3.5 on the type 2, it could be a false positive.
If you were given an IgM test, it's a worthless test, but many doctors still use it.
A bump on your wrist is highly unlikely to be herpes, unless you're a wrestler (there's something called herpes gladitorium, but if you're not a wrestler, don't worry about that).
If you think you have herpes in your eye, this is worth a visit to an ophthalmologist, even during a lockdown. That would need immediate treatment. If your doctor thought you had ocular herpes and didn't immediately refer you, that's very concerning.
So what to tell your boyfriend? I don't know yet. How long have you been together? If you are actually positive, you could have had it before him. He could have had it before you and given it to you unknowingly.
Right now, if he's safe, I would just tell him that you got these tests done because you have a rash, and the results are wonky, and you're working through that. If he can get a type specific IgG herpes blood test (which may be hard as it's not an urgent health care reason right now), that might help figure this all out.
It's a lot to understand, I know, but if you can get your exact lab report, that will go a long way in helping figure this out.
