IGG tests for herpes

I’ve been having symptoms that appear to be herpes for a year now but my IGG tests came back negative. How reliable are the tests? When I take anti viral drugs my symptoms go away. Are there other viruses that can cause the same symptoms?

If the symptoms come back be seen by your provider for culture and typing.  You need to be seen within 24-48hrs after they appear.  A few people (15%) will not show antibody positive on our current testing for HSV-1.

If the symptoms are constant for a year then it is not herpes.  If they go and come back then that would be different.

Given the time line of the testing being 4 months after your last sexual encounter you can trust your results.  Though the testing can miss 1 out of 10 infections.  If you get a repeat of symptoms be seen within 24-48 hours for a lesion culture and typing.
