HSV 1 SUFFERING
HELLO, I TESTED POSITIVE FOR GENITAL HSV 1 ABOUT 2 1/2 MONTHS AGO AND EVER SINCE THEN MY ENTIRE GENITAL AREA HAS BEEN SO PAINFUL. I AM TAKING VALTREX 500 MG 2 TIMES A DAY AND A LARGE AMOUNT (UP TO 6000 MG) OF L-LYSINE DAILY AND MY SYMPTOMS DON'T SEEM TO BE IMPROVING. I HAVE NEVER HAD VISIBLE LESIONS BUT MY PCR SWAB WAS POSITIVE FOR HSV 1 IN MY VAGINAL CANAL. WILL THEY SYMPTOMS EVER GO AWAY OR SHOULD I EXPECT TO CONSTANTLY BE IN PAIN. PLEASE HELP, DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO? I'M SO UNCOMFORTABLE AND FEEL LIKE I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO HAVE SEX AGAIN.

This is all just guesswork until you get professionally reexamined. I repeat my opinion that herpes isn't the cause of your symptoms, and I doubt increasing the amount of valacyclovir will make a difference. In fact, you should probably stop it entirely until you have seen your doctor.

I think 500mg twice a day for an intial outbreak may not be enough. Consider calling your doctor and asking if you can take a higher dosage. I think I was prescribed 1g (or 1000mg) twice a day for my initial outbreak. Also, for my initial outbreak I was prescribed a small tube of cream/ointment that I applied to the area. It really helped soothe the area (especially since every time I pee'd I wanted to cry). I don't remember the name of it, but maybe you can ask your doctor.

when you say "rare" what exactly do you mean? I realize certain symptoms are "rare" but they also do exist and how can we tell if we are one of the "rare" ones? What percentage of people with herpes have these type of symptoms?
Yes, not responding to Valtrex is rare, some nerve damage from herpes is rare.....but it still means it exists....someone still may be the rare one.
Forgive me, but I just get so frustrated because the ones that turn out to be rare got to jump through hoops to get diagnosed and are usually called crazy or symptoms psychological and I really don't think it's fair.
I am not accusing you by any means, but the medical establishment. Although I can appreciate everything they do...when something is rare, they tend to fail.......

It is very unlikely your current symptoms are still due to herpes. Initial gential herpes symptoms rarely if ever more than 2-3 weeks, especially when taking valacyclovir (Valtrex). It is very rare for herpes to not respond to valacyclovir. I wonder whether you now have a yeast infection, which can follow herpes (or any other genital area inflammation.
Lysine is ineffective against herpes -- an urban myth, and some experts would call it quackery.
You should return to the doctor or clinic where your herpes was diagnosed and treated, then follow their advice about the current diagnosis and treatment. Good luck!

It will get better over time. I was like that for 4 months and then it got better. Your nerves may be irritated u may need nerve block medication. Check with ur dr
