Hi, I tested at 2.0 Captia IGG for HSV 2.  I am a man and never had any penile outbreaks ever.  Since I have been reading on this subject, I get more confused.

I am a health nut, and am taking all kinds of herbs/vitamins that are supposed to inhibit herpes viral replication (indole 3 carbinol, and olive leaf extract).

1.  Will taking these items cause my IGG to be low as it is?
2.  I have read that results in this range are more likely than not to be false positive.  Is this true?

As an FYI, I had a follow up test done on Friday and should know the results soon.  My doctor appears to be uninformed about herpes... :(

it is not the same test. they are totally different tests made by totally different companies. captia has been out for a few years now.

there aren't generic lab tests either.

That's not what the online testing places say.  They say captia is the same test, albeit it more of a generic and cheaper, than Hselect...

Captia is made by another company and not focus (who makes HerpeSelect).  Testing isn't a "generic" like medicine.  The test looks for the same antibodies but chemically they are different I am sure.

Grace, thank you for your follow up.

Isn't the captia a generic equivalent of the Herpeselect test?

I have been told this; however, I can't find much about it online.  Is it a new test or what?

Thanks.

there have never been studies that show that any of the supplements you are taking have any effect in humans to reduce ob's and viral shedding of herpes. They were only effective in the test tube and doses for effectiveness aren't available.

captia has never done the false positive studies that herpeselect has done but we recommend confirming all low positive captia results too.  Since you've never had noticeable ob's to get cultured, confirming your status with a herpes WB or a biokit hsv2 igg is recommended.
