HVS-1 Genital Herpes

I was recently diagnosed with HSV-1 Genital Herpes. I don't know how I contracted it, as I practice safe sex and get STD tested on a yearly basis; however, now that I have it I have some questions and concerns.

I am currently taking viral suppressive medication, which as I understand is supposed to slow down the rate at which the virus replicates. BUT the thing that I am concerned about is spreading the virus via viral shedding. Can someone explain a bit more to be about what I should do to prevent spreading the virus via shedding, other than using condoms and traditional safe-sex practices.

Also, I understand that HSV-1 typically doesn't have as many outbreaks, why is that?

You could have contracted it through oral sex and its also possible that using the saliva, of someone with oral HSV-1, can cause genital HSV-1, but I'm not positive.
The chances of spreading HSV-1 genital to genital is extremely low, if you look on the medical forums you can find out more information on that.
I believe the reason that there are so few outbreaks is due to the fact that HSV-1 is traditionally an oral infection.  Since it is not in the usual host site, it will not reoccur as often.
I have done a lot of research on genital HSV-1 because I was recently diagnosed with it.
