Herpes?/Time frames???????

The last time i had any sex was over 3 months ago. about two weeks ago i shaved my groin. a few days later i have a red bump on the upper part of my groin. Its only one red spot. it doesnt hurt or anything. it looks like a ingrown hair. How long would herpes take to show up is 3 months to long? and if it was a primary outbreak would it only be one red bump? How soon for an inital outbreak?

its been 6 months since my last encounter. i was getting most of the symptoms and at 8.5 weeks i got what looked like 3 bumps/blisters. the doctor said it was herpes and gave me valtrex. they went away in a day or so......no sores but the skin seems shinny where they were. i have taken tests at 4/6/8.5/11/17.5 weeks and all negative. so your saying if i go at 6 months there is a good chance it will become positive. Dr. HHH believes i dont have it but he has not seen the bumps.

If you took a test 12 weeks post exposure (and you did) and the IgG for both HSV-1 and 2 are negative then you can pretty much believe you're negative.

thanks.
I read at the top of this thread that it can take up to 6 months and i also read from one of the docs that valtex can prevent the antibiodes from showing up if valtrex is taken early. I am still on the valtrex because i went 10 days without it after my last negative test and started getting burning on the penis shaft so i went back on....i still get the pain in the leg or buttock once in a while. Also i dont now how accurate those tests are.

What were the numbers on your test?? At 17 weeks and IgG negative, you're really probably negative.

Your Doctor is an idiot!!!  I would suggest finding someone with a smaller ego than this person. He most likely doesn't know what herpes is but since he has the title Doctor, he feels he is always right. Should tell him you are going to file a lawsuit for malpractice if he doesn't knock it off. You're clean dude!!! Move on and stop worrying!!

You definitely don't have HSV1 or 2, you can pretty much trust those results :}

the problem is I still dont feel right, i still get pain in buttock and pain/burning on penis when i get off the valtrex. plus it looks like where those blister/bumps were that there is some shiny skin......just a little patch looks different than the rest. So if I didnt have any pain or anything i would say your right and move on. at the top of this forum alone and scared said it took him up to 6 months to become positive. i wonder if I should go at 6 months...i dont really want and dont know if its going to clear anything up......also i read one of the doctors forums saying that if taken early the valtrex can keep the antibodies from appearing......well i took it a day after the bump so maybe i am getting false negatives do to that.....i wish all the pain and discomfort would go away...

also my doctor says he use to be in the army so he dealt with alot of STDS......he started showing me examples in a book.......they didnt look like mine but he said they were in the early stage.....the blisters disappeared and when i went back with the negative results again he said he didnt care what they said......i kind of believe him i guess......beacuse well i heard that the blood test isnt accurate also do to what alone and scared said at the top......that has me worried

It's not a good idea to threaten a doctor with a malpractice suit unless you have a very specific complaint about the standard of care having been breached and unless you can show cause that you were injured or given substandard care. Why not? Because the doctor is going to make a notation in that patient's chart that you threatened a lawsuit  and it's going to follow him/her through the course of their future medical care. And believe me, doctors don't like knowing their patients are knee-jerk in  spouting off  about lawsuits. You may even have difficulty finding a primary care doc after that.

A lot of docs are not up to speed on herpes. Many are giving out information that is outdated. Find another PCP if you need to, but from the looks of your test results, you don't have herpes. Why can't you let this go? What psychological payback do you get from focusing on having herpes when your test results are negative?

all my other tests are negative........i have pain/burning in the lower area. my joints hurt at my pelvis....pain in buttock and burning/pain in the penis.....so its hard to let go......if i didnt have this i would have moved on, in fact i did after my last negative results. I stopped taking valtrex......about 10 days later i got this really uncomfortable burning/pain in the penis and i couldnt sleep so i took some valtrex and i think that took care of it. Then i read at the top that alone and scared it took him up to 6 months......What is PCP?

PCP is primary care doctor. You can go to a second one and request a herpes type-specific blood test from them if you're still not convinced or you're confused about what this doctor is doing.

i have went to multiple doctors and had tests done at different doctors......he is the only one who saw the bumps beacuse they disappeared quickly I did the 6/8.5 week test with him. the 11 weeks was with another doctor and the 17.5 was with my urologist. he said i had some mild prosatits and gave me some levaquin twice...... For most part these doctors have no comments. I went to an infection doctor back at like 4 weeks but that was pretty early and he wasnt concerned either.  Maybe i should go to a dermatologist. There seems to be a shiny patch of skin where the bumps were....is this the scaring part from herpes I wonder? I guess at what point do I stop taking tests.....i just wish the discomfort would go away....then i could move on

Herpes doesn't leave scars. I'm sorry about your discomfort but herpes isn't the cause. Please stop hurting yourself and thinking you have herpes. You should visit a dermatologist for any skin irritations and a neurologist for your nerve pain.

You're welcome, and no herpes doesn't leave scarring. I know that sometimes it is scary until you get results and even then for some people it's still scary if you still feel something is amiss. Sometimes you just need some reassurance :)

When you do not have an outbreak, it is VERY common to test negative.

You won't test negative from a IgG type-specific blood test after all that time, outbreaks or not.

I recently tested negative and was told by my gyno that it was because I did not have an outbreak at the time.  This has also happened to a friend of mine, who tested negative months after an outbreak.

Not all blood tests are equal, but all FDA-approved type-specific herpes blood tests are. Your gyno is just plain WRONG, doctors can be wrong. You do NOT need an outbreak to test positive for HSV-1 or 2. It's fine to share your experience but please stop spreading false information, this person is worried enough.
