Which medication is better for daily suppressive therapy?

I was recently diagnosed with herpes, (apparently I'm one of the people who have had it for a long time and did not know it) and was given Valtrex to take to help with the outbreak. I have finished this and am now ready to start suppressive medication daily. My gyn has suggested taking 500mg of valtrex daily and my family docotor suggested taking 200mg daily of Acyclovir. From some of what I have read the Acyclovir dose she is suggesting isn't the standard and I have also read you can build a tolerance to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Either is ok. Valtrex would probably be my choice. The dossage of acyclovir your Dr suggests is way to low. How were you diagnosed?

I originally went to an urgent care facility on a Sunday and the doctor there told me it was herpes. I got an appointment first this the next morning with my gyn and she did a culture.
Ok, I am glad you got a culture done. Herpes should never be diagnosed by sight alone.
Should I get any further testing to find out which type I have?
Hopefully they will type specific test the culture if positive
I'll ask. Thanks.
