Herpes but no pain?

Hey there. First time asking a question on here. A week ago my doctor took a quick glance at a rash on my "downstairs area" and immediately said "THIS IS HERPES." I have no itchiness, no pain, no burning. Just looked like razor bumps to me. Or maybe something to do with hair follicles. She immediately prescribed Valtrex to me and I've been taking it every 8 hours as prescribed. My concern is - is it possible to have your first herpes outbreak with no pain, itchiness or discomfort? The only itchiness I'm feeling at this point is from not shaving.

I'm eagerly waiting test results. I just feel like dying.

On one hand, the opinion of an experienced doctor on direct examination should be respected, suggesting you may in fact have herpes. OTOH, I agree with Life360 that your description doesn't suggest herpes. Lack of pain doesn't mean much; some herpes lesions are painless. Perhaps most important, if it is herpes, it will definitely start to clear up within 3-4 days of starting valacyclovir. If you don't see clear improvement in that time, return to your doctor to discuss alternative dianoses.

As a side note, I'm guessing your doctor isn't very knowledgeable about herpes. A doc who understands HSV would be expected to do a swab test (PCR or culture) of the lesions and not rely on the blood test.

Really does not appear as herpes related and since you shave there folliculitis is likely to occur.

She didnt swab the area. But I took a blood and urine test the next day. Still waiting for results. I've also seen some forums where this could possibly be folliculitis. I do shave down there and I'm also at the gym religiously so I sweat a lot.  But the way my doctor seems so certain and so quick to diagnose it really concerns me.

It doesn't hurt at all to touch or scratch. And also the bumps don't ooze or open unless I try to squeeze them or scratch them. Just a little bit of blood.

Hi, most often hsv2 genital is painful where hsv1 maynot be so intense. Did she swab the area?
