outbreak info

So I was told I have herpes. My igg value is 2.9 I know I need to confirm it however I want to give it more time. My question is once you are diagnosed w/ hsv type 2 how long can some one go with out getting an outbreak. I have not notice anything as of yet! Its been almost 6 month since I got my results.

Hii Txr,

In my case, it has been more than 120 (or 16 weeks as I've been told) days since exposure.  It has been almost a year.  So my WB is not a false negative for hsv2.  :)

Western Blot typically requires far more time to show seropositivity.  The curves I am looking at show ELISA at 23 days for .5 probability, WB at 101.

To get a high-probability reading from WB, aka minimum chance of false negative, you want to wait 120 days from outbreak/exposure.

Biokit, OTOH, can show seropositivity in 8-13 days, even faster than ELISA.

Hi Mariii,

First off I would suggest you visit the West Over Heights website.  Terri Warren is a God send and I am proof.

Second, I was in a similar situation but I tested positive for 1 and 2 (lab corp) in January.  I was devistated.  My results were 6.09 for 1 and 2.64 for 2.  Ten days later, I went to a different OB just for "confirmation" and was tested only for hsv2 which came back positive...2.68.  More depression.  A couple weeks later, i started researching and came across western blot testing as confirmation.  I learned a lot from Terri Warren and the West Over Heights forums.  Long story short, I became a "patient" of Westover Heights clinic and they ordered my blood drawn at a Quest here on the east coast and my blood was overnighted to Univ of Washington.  I just got my results and i am positive for hsv1 and negative for hsv2.  As Terri and other places on the internet have stated, these assays at lab corp and quest produce false positives for hsv2 if your hsv1 is high.  You definitely should get a western blot to confirm or deny your hsv2.  do you have hsv1?

I am trying to post my story here on medhelp, but I don't know how.  I just signed up.  I'd like to get my story/situation out there so that I can help others.  Being told that you have something like herpes for the rest of your life is pretty life altering news.  Could you let me know how I can make a general post somewhere?
Thanks

You are fine with retesting with a type specific IgG for now. No need for seeking other options if it comes back uncertain, then maybe. As for your doctor asking for you to come if an ob happens ıIassume that is to swab it but in your case asymptomatic or uninfected that might not be the case. If more than 4 months have passed since last sexual contact you can have a type specific IgG for hsv2. I would insist if I were you or find another lab/doctor that wouldnt be as stubborn.

Your OB/Gyn is typical.

Reference my post on this forum about HSV IgG <3.5.

You can at this point have another IgG test.  People on here need to stop glibly throwing out this WB crap- look if you're going to recommend WB, then PROVIDE a contact number, name, ANYTHING so someone can actually GET a WB.  Talking to hear yourself talk isn't useful.

A biokit can confirm and so can another IgG.  The Biokit and WB are useful for these equivoval positives, IgG<3.5.

Your results were 6 months ago, another IgG would be fine.  Biokit is a $30 rapid assay that you might be able to find also.

You need to retest to put this behind you.

Call me crazy but I always pay attention to what's going on down there . I was always have been so afraid of diseases like hsv. My obgyn she said she is willing to do it in a few months. And went to a different one she said to wait for an O/B.

They are mostly painful but not always TOO painful. If you payed attention you would notice it but it is possible that you missed it. Life is right with the absence of symptoms and a low positive you should insist to get another test.

My obgyn refuses to believe in low positives. I cannot afford a western blot right now. I have heard the first O/B its super painful and hard to miss it. Is that true?

Hi, most often a low positive minus symptoms would be a false positive. Many people never have outbreaks and those that do, the first appear about a week after exposure and is usually the worst them progressively get less and less severe. Testing now with the western blot would be advised.
