How accurate is my test result

Hi,

I had a protected sex on Dec7th with a Sauna lady (To be frank i just penetrated thrice in her vagina and i stopped it)later she gave me Blow job and hand job.

From 13th day after this i had a totally dry mouth and yellowish urine which burnt when i was passing urine. I some how searched the forums and got panicking about HIV. But i took all tests and all came back negative.

after nearly more than 2 months, i had a bad pharyngitis and it is still present. I went to the Doctor and told him i m freaking about the sex which i had, he examined me physically and no you are fine. I insisted him to go for complete STD checkup and ended up diagnosing in Herpes type -2.
Herpes Igg was above 1.5

I still haven't got any symptoms or any sores near my genital. I m not sure what i need to do from here. He prescribed me with Valacyclovir(500 mg) on daily basis.

Do i take the test accuracy as 100%  and i m a host for herpes?
Do i need to take the tabled every day even when i m not having cold sores?

Please help me here.. Thanks in advance

I don't agree, continual testing at 1.4 is still in need of confirmation with Westernblot.

Thats a pretty low figure for a positive result.  Could be a false reading. DO NOT take the valtrex unless you get sores.  You need to take another igG test at 12 weeks after the sexual encounter...which would be now.  And the valtrex will screw up your results if you take too much.

You say it burnt when you urinated.  How long did this last and what how intense was the pain?

Your exposure wasn't especially risky. Zero chance of HIV.  I'd suspect the HsV is wrong also.  Any other sex recently?

Hi Timin,

Thanks a ton for responding.

Dr told me that if the igg value is above 1 it is considered as positive.

I gave the result at the completion of 12 weeks which is on friday (03/07)
I was given medicines for my pharyngitis which were Ceterizine HCL 10mg and levofloxacin 500 mg once a day. I m taking this for more than a week now and not sure if this has any impact.

The burning sensation lasted for one night, along with dehydration and didn't had any pain. This is the only sexual activity in last 2 years that i had.

Please help me out.

If your test was a Herpeselect ELISA, like most IgG tests are, anything lower than 3.5 is suspect.  Find out what type of test was used

After reading that last bit, I really think you should retest in a week or two.

Did you test for HSV1?

Those mess would have no impact on anything.  Don't take that valtrex until you get real symptoms.

Yes i did get tested for hsv1 as well. I remember that value for the hsv-1 igg was less than 1 (some what i noticed it as 0.4),

I m not sure with what test was used. I will call him tomorrow to find out the details.

So i will wait for 2 more weeks and get another test done?

Hi Timin,

I just called the Dr for the test details. below are the information he gave me.

HSV herpes simplex virus 2, glyco protein antibody test and since this is positive it means i have been exposed to hsv-2 and developing antibodies. (when i asked specifically weather it is Elisa or Western Blot, he replied that those are only for HIV and not for Herpes)

My GP also said if the igg value is less than 0.9 it is considered to be negative.
My Value is 1.40 and as per him it is not at all a suspect. Take the tablet without fail is what his point.

I didn't took it yet as suggested by you.

1) The blood samples were taken at the completion of 12th week from what could have been a possible exposure. Still it can show a false positive? or i should get on with the acceptance process?

2) Now what should i do here? look for another dr who can do my Western blot ? do you know if labcorb in Georgia does that?

3) I just have throat pain for about 2 weeks now and other than that no real symptoms, no rash, no redness nothing unusual in genital area.

Please help me with your info. I really value your time and i highly appreciate you taking time for helping everyone on this forum.

Regards
Prabhakaran M

Sounds positive to me as 12 weeks is pretty conclusive. Id retest one more time for confirmation THEN take the Valtrex as prescribed.

Thank you for commenting back.

But really getting tensed what i should do from here.

Shall i go for the western blot test or a normal herpes test.
Should i need to continue this tablet even if i dont see symptoms?

I don't see the need for a Western Blot in your situation. I would recommend a standard HerpeSelecy IGG type specific test and use those results as confirmation.

I would not take the "tablets" as they could skew your test results. 1.40 is above an equivocal range and if in that ballpark or higher again, I would confirm you has  herpes positive and take the tablets as prescribed.

I saw a lot of false positives and got negative after they test with the western blot. So i was hoping this might be the case too.
But as per your comments 12 weeks is conclusive.

I m just 27 years of age, and could not even think that i have this dreadful disease.
I m confused a lot.

Anyways i will try to do another test and will see how this goes.

Thanks to you all

Hi a 1.4 falls into false positive range for sure and would need another test to confirm. You can take the biokit which is a simple finger prick and  is hsv2 specific. Dont take the meds till you retest and by the way getting hsv2 gential from oral sex is really a long shot. Almost all people with hsv oral is hsv1 not 2 so do reconsider your status.

Life,

Weather or not i have herpes, i m really thank full to all you guys for the support.

now i m actually confused, as per Bigtimeworried55 12 weeks mark would be a definite. But you say the value falls in 1.4 which might be a false positive range. Also do remember i had a protected vaginal penetration for about couple of minutes. Does this also counts?

Anyways i will definitely go for a retest. Can you please guide me where can i find this biokit? Does labcorb does this?

It would be if your value was 4 or above not at 1.4, thats really low and also mentioned that hsv2 oral is not common at all. The protected vaginal would count if your pubic mound area rubbed and grinded into hers if not then no. Im not sure where you can get the biokit

Thanks life i will get back to you with my retest results, Your words are really encouraging to me. i m sure i have touched her pubic area, but dont think i have rubbed too much or grinned too much into hers.

I will try for a retest.

Thanks again life

Just touching would not force the virus into the nerve.

Not the igm the igg. if they dont know that the igm is not correct they dont know about herpes.

So they say that they do both the test, and this is what i did it on last friday for which the igg came as 1.4
So again re do the same test?

The western blot is the preferred but if that one is not too expensive give it a shot. 2 positive back to back would be conclusive.

I dont have access to western blot unless i call terry and join her as phone patient.

and did you mean back to back positive igg results are conclusive? or a WB?

If positive once you test again...even if in the 1.4 range I would deem you positive and would take the antivirals.

Good luck man.
