Yes, an igg blood test would tell you which you have. but hsv2 is more common genital
If you have both HSV1 and HSV2, it is a very safe assumption you have oral HSV1 and genital HSV2.
No what i meant was i have never had a facial breakout but my new gf recently got a breakout of hsv1 whilst having flu and we can only assume it has come from me as she is aware i have HSV2. But we haven't had intercourse or oral yet so I'm trying to work out if i passed it on by having it and no symptoms or whether she picked it up somewhere else either recently or in the past and its just been dormant until she was low in her immune system
Is it possible to get HSV1 and not show any symptoms until a later period of time as above?
Most people are infected in their youth with many have no recollection owing to age or awareness of being infected. I'd suggest your partner is more likely to have had HSV1 since their youth than a recent infection, so no not really much evidence it came from you.
You not recalling a facial outbreak does not give assurance that you do not have HSV1.
Thanks for the comment, I'm confident i have never had an outbreak around my mouth but thats why i was wondering if when you have a test can they tell you what types are present or is oral HSV1 only diagnosed by physical signs?
That was answered above. IgG antibodies are present when a person is infected. This is regardless of whether they are having an outbreak or not. The antibodies are permanent.
