Hi, whitlow is not all over the hands and infact its quite rare and is only contracted by an open finger sore to a open herpes finger sore. Its not contracted by merely touching as the skin on the hands it too thick for the virus to enter.

Herpes whitlow is contracted when a portal (cut, wound, tear, etc.) on the finger or hand comes into contact with the virus anywhere on an infected person. It is most often contracted by health professionals, such as dentists, who work on the mouths of people with oral HSV-1.

However, if your symptoms are really warts, they are not caused by HSV. If you're truly worried, you should have a doctor look at them.
