Lesbian transmission of Herpes

Hi!
Just wanted to try and clarify some points about transmission of herpes between two female-bodied people that I'm unsure about. My partner has recently been diagnosed with HSV-2, but I don't have it.
My main concern is asymptomatic shedding; as my partner and I don't really have sex where our genitals come into direct contact, the only obvious transmission routes are orogenital contact, shared toys, and hands that have touched them and then me.
The first two are relatively easy to make safer, but my confusion is around the latter. Where exactly is it that asymptomatic shedding occurs from that we need to avoid touching on my partner? Do lesion sites shed even in dormant disease? Does shedding occur strictly from the genital mucosa, or do we need to be careful about touching buttocks/thighs/hips/mons pubis etc.?
Any advice would be much appreciated!

yes and yes. But understand its not just touching but needs some friction rubbing to force the virus into the nerve

Thanks for your help!
Re: "the boxer shorts area" - does this mean that if we are careful not to touch that area and then touch any of my genital mucosa, mutual masturbation is safe?
Does this also mean that if I am penetrated with a strap-on, that's safe if the harness is covered with boxer shorts?

Hi, shedding can occur anywhere below the boxer short area and most new cases are when there are no symptoms. Shedding of hsv2 genital does happen quite often in compared to hsv1. Contracting by oral sex, meaning getting hsv2 oral is not common at all. You might want to have a herpes test as many people are positive for oral hsv1 and if you are that would make the risk extremely low as you would have strong antibodies to help prevent it. Hsv2 is considered sexually transmitted by direct skin contact.
You might want to find out where she has breakouts and avoid that area if possible.
