When someone with HSV 1 shed I do understand that he/she sheds 9-18%, but is that percentage talking about per day, week, month, year, or a person's lifespan"
Using per year to put things into perspective but actually all you mention would be considered correct as well. It sheds 9-18% of the time.

If shedding is that common, then why isn't genitals hsv 1 outnumber hsv 2? Is there and researched done on shedding at all?
