Possible Discordant Marriage

The Back Story -  I met my wife 6 years ago... after 2 years of dating, she found a lesion and suspected herpes... We both got a herpeselect test... We both get cold sores from time to time and knew we would be positive for HSV-1... My results were HSV-1 Positive and HSV-2 Negative... Her results were HSV-1 Positive and HSV-2 Positive but under the 3.5 mark...(I don’t remember the #) She hadn’t been with anyone else sexually for 2+ years...so she wasn’t in the process of sero-converting, I had learned a lot about false positives on this forum and decided to seek out a Biokit test for her... The results were negative... So we thought the whole herpes thing was behind us... Fast forward to about two weeks ago... She had some redness and irritation down there and decided to get a Swab test... especially because we are expecting our second child... The results were HSV-2 Positive... We have been in a monogamous relationship for the whole 6 years and do not use condoms...

My questions are:

1. Does it make sense for her to get confirmatory herpeselect test? I have read that sometimes swab tests don’t type HSV... so her genital infection could actually be HSV-1?

2. Could her Herpeselect test been right 4 years ago with such a low number coupled with a negative Biokit test?

3. I plan to get tested too -  I have had no symptoms over the years but would like to know my status... If she is indeed HSV-2 Positive and I am still HSV-2 Negative, should she go on suppressive therapy to decrease the chances of transmission to me?

4. Does the fact that I am HSV-1 positive help protect me from HSV-2?

Her OB is planning on putting her on suppressive therapy for the final 4 weeks of pregnancy which seems like standard procedure...

In a weird way hope that I am HSV-2 + so we can just forget about it, especially because I have no symptoms... but from what I’ve read transmission is difficult, so it is likely that I am still negative.... Thank you in advance for your time...

she'd have to ask them if they typed her culture or just assumed that it was hsv2 since it was genital.

the biokit is a good confirmatory test to use but none of the tests are 100% unfortunately.

Yes she is pregnant now... due in Nov...
I guess my point was... is it possible that they didn't to a type-specific culture? And to confirm with a blood test... I thought Biokit was very accurate? What a nightmare....

A + lesion culture trumps it all and confirms her hsv2 status. no reason for more blood testing at this point.

totally up to the two of you what precautions to take together.

no, hsv1 doesn't provide you with any significant protection against contracting hsv2 from your partner.

is she pregnant now?
