Recurrent cold sores

I performed oral sex on a man about two months ago. About five days later, I had a red and sore throat with white spots. I was tested for oral STDs and it came back negative. I was prescribed antibiotics which I took until completion. I ended up having a slight fever and felt mildly sick and ended up getting a cold sore. Since then, my fever and illness have subsided, but I’ve been getting one cold sore after the other. As soon as one sore resolves another pops up. I’ve been taking Valtrex to resolve them, so they have not been particularly bad outbreaks, but I am concerned about their recurrence. Does anyone have any insight into what could be causing this? I am seeing an ENT in a few days and would like to know if there’s anything specific you would suggest I ask about.

When you were sick, did you test for covid? Did you recently get a covid vaccine?

We've had reports from people that having covid and/or getting the vax can trigger herpes sores, and it can be really hard to get them under control.

Are you taking the Valtrex daily, as suppression? That would be my suggestion after you see the doc and get it confirmed that these are indeed hsv1 outbreaks.

You might be having an allergic reaction to something, which can look similar, or an allergic reaction to something you are using on your mouth might be triggering the outbreaks.

See the doc. Ask for them to do a PCR culture on a sore. Don't take any Valtrex until you see the doc. If you get a sore, don't do anything to it until the doc sees it. Let the doc see how it looks as is.

Good luck!
