Transmission of cold sore when just bump

I had a bump on my lip which had no pain or tingling . I put vinegar on it just in case- no stinging
so it was not open. I performed
Oral on this guy.  2 days later I realized it was in fact a cold sore. What
Are the chances I was contagious at the time it was just a bump.
How long before we know if he's infected?

Sorry to bother you again but your comment got me thinking. I cut my lip approximately 3 weeks earlier and this is where the bump appeared and remained for the next three weeks. I thought it was just a scar as it did not hurt and appeared white. Now it sounds as though this "bump" may have been shedding the entire time . Is that correct?

so he's had cold sores before?

should he develop any obvious genital symptoms within a week or two of the oral sex, he should be seen promptly for a lesion culture, typing and treatment.  at this point, only time will tell if you transmitted it to him or not. Unfortunately any "trauma" to the oral area can trigger hsv1 shedding even before an obvious cold sore appears so you could've been actively shedding the virus at the time you performed oral.

In addition he hasn't had any cold sores on his lips since then. Is one area more apt to get infected then the other?
