HSV1 Negative, but have cold sores

I just got my test results from LabCorp and ViroMed laboratories.  It shows that I am negative/non-reactive for Hepatitis B/C, HIV 1/2, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, HSV-1/2.  All were done at LabCorp except for HSV1/2, which were done at ViroMed.

I question all these results because I get mouth cold sores and yet I am negative for HSV-1.  How is this possible?

This is the HSV-1 result (same result for HSV-2):

HSV 1 IgG, Type Spec <0.91

index
0.00 − 0.90
Negative 1.09

Note: Negative indicates no antibodies detected to
HSV−1. Equivocal may suggest early infection. If
clinically appropriate, retest at later date. Positive
indicates antibodies detected to HSV−1; coinfection
with HSV−2 cannot be excluded without type specific

From some of Dr. HHH's remarks I got the impression that all HIV tests in the U.S. are modern and would detect HIV by 8 weeks in >99% of people.  And that the CDC 3 month mark is still very conservative, but used basically for insurance purposes (for the <1% or less).

it all depends on the hiv test being used. for questions about your hiv testing you had, please post on the hiv forums.

True, but for all encounters prior 3+ months ago, would these tests be reliable?

Plus, isn't 8 weeks post unprotected insertive fellatio sufficient time to test for HIV reliably?  I've seen Dr. HHH and Hook say 8 weeks is pretty much conclusive for standard HIV blood test.

looked at your post on std.

you need to wait at least 6 weeks post encounter for syphilis testing. 3 months for herpes, hepatitis and hiv.

So I can believe all my other results: the HIV, Syphilis, HepB/C, Gonorrhea/Chlamydia?

Thank you so much for the explanation!

even the best blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections. not uncommon at all to miss a prior hsv1 oral infection.

if you are sure these are cold sores, assume you really do have hsv1. If you aren't sure if these are cold sores, canker sores or something like angular cheilitis, be seen when you have one the next time for a proper exam and lesion culture.
