Should I be retested?

Hello, I know this question gets asked all of the time, but I was just informed by my doctor that I tested positive for HSV2. I have never had an outbreak and I have been in a monogamous relationship for three years. Here are the results of my HerpeSelect test:

HSV 1 IgG  <0.91

HSV 2 IgG    2.07

Should I have a Western Blot done or is it safe to say that these HerpeSelect results are most likely accurate?

Needless to say, this news has been incredibly stressful...

Since you haven't had an outbreak and your result is 2.07 some Doctors see little cause for concern as far as transmission is concerned,it is not for me to disagree with a Professional.
The problem I see here is that Herpes is now in your mind and from personal experience and that of most who visit the Forums is that you have a need to know what risk you may or may not be putting your partner at,if any, which is very commendable,it is for that reason I would suggest you re-test a bit later on and also have a chat with an STD Health Advisor who will be able to give you some solid good advice on where you go from here as far as protecting your partner is concerned ..... it might at this stage be an idea for your partner to be tested also, not because I think she may have contracted it rather so that you can both be ceratin of eachothers status and can decide how you wish to manage things.

I hope this is of some help to you

I would.  They messed up my results.  I was positive for Type 1, not 2.    They are refunding the 285.00 I paid them.

Thanks, Daisy. Part of me wants to know for sure and the other part of me just wants to forget about it since I've never had an outbreak and I've been with the same person for three years. Is it unheard of for someone with a 2.07 to be a false-positive? The test was done at labcorp, which seems to stir some controversy with others on this forum. Do they have a bad rep?

I was also confused by my doctor's assessment of the situation. He seemed to think it really wasn't that big of a deal and even suggested it wasn't absolutely necessary to tell my girlfriend (but I did, of course). He also saw no reason for us to start using condoms. But my girlfriend hasn't been tested. Maybe she doesn't have it. If that's the case, then why wouldn't we switch to condoms?

This result would tell me you have HSV2 but I believe that some people with results between 1.0 and 3.0 have false-positive results. It might settle your mind to be retested in a few weeks time but that would be entirely your call  .....
