Hi, no its not possible to have any herpes outbreaks from a recent exposure in less than 2 or 3 days.
Thank you, Life360. I actually went to a clinic today out of anxiety and concern, since I am married and this encounter was a mistake I regret tremendously now. The doctor said that if this cut/abrasion actually turned out to be herpes, it would be from some previous exposure, since herpes does not appear instantaneously, as you said. The doctor said I should call him if the abrasion worsened or turned into a series of blisters, since that would be a more worrying sign of herpes. On the other hand, if the abrasion goes away, it probably was just an abrasion. He told me based on the physical exam and my description of the encounter, he thought the probability this is herpes is under 10%. He still did a swab culture of the cut/abrasion and said the culture results would come back in about 5 days. It has been 2 1/2 days and the cut has not gone away. Of course, I am not exactly leaving it alone -- instead, I am obsessing over it and looking at it to see if it hurts, if it is getting bigger, smaller, redder, is forming blisters, etc. I suffer from both anxiety and depression, so the next 5 days will be a living hell.
Couple of things. First, herpes does not appear on the head very often and i have read where some doctors specializing in this have never seen an outbreak on the head area ever. Its most often on the shaft or pubic mound area. Also it would be painful esp hsv2. Besides the swab you should also have a blood test as swabs are only good for showing a positive. Does it appear your having a out break from a past exposure? No it does not.
