Herpes or no?!

Hey all-- last week I had an unfortunate experience. I got pretty debilitatingly drunk at a party. A girl I kind of know decided to take advantage of this and performed oral sex on me without protection. After this, she began to try to have vaginal sex with me, and after rubbing my penis on her vagina for a bit I told her to stop. I don't think anything but my head every touched her, and she told me later that there was no penetration.

Meanwhile, I'm in quite a committed relationship. I told my partner about what happened and also talked to the girl that the incident happened with about her sexual history, just to be on the safe side. The girl told me that she had sex with a guy a year ago that has recently been rumored to have herpes. She said that two weeks before our encounter happened, that she was tested for a gammut of sti's and came back clean on all accounts, and that her last sexual partner was about a month before she got tested.

I have since had sex with my partner twice. After the first time, I noticed 3 purple spots on the head of my penis the next day. They were not raised and have seemed to fade a little over the past few days. Last night we had pretty rough sex in a car. She had her panties on for a while and it hurt a little bit, so she took them off once I complained. Today, I noticed a very tiny raw spot in the middle of my shaft. It's raw and red and kind of shiny. I'm also a little itchy in my genital area.

Could this possibly be herpes? And if yes, how should I go about getting tested?

Thanks!

Thank you so much! This is certainly extremely helpful. My partner and I have already talked about both getting tested, and we plan on doing so pretty soon, and I will probably continue blood tests for a few months after, just to be certain.

I will talk to my doctor soon, and talk to him about IgG tests. I appreciate the information.

What you were at risk for, and that risk is quite low considering this was a one time exposure, was for HSV-1, which could have been acquired through oral sex. I don't think HSV-2 is too much of a concern given there was no penetration, but if there was significant naked genital-to-genital grinding then it's a possibility although very low.

The symptoms you describe don't really sound like herpes. The purple spots on your penis could be from balanitis or irritation from rough sex. The raw spot in the middle of your shaft is likely from irritation as well, but to be sure you should get this swabbed by your physician as soon as possible to completely rule out herpes.

I think you should let this be the right time for you and your current girlfriend to get tested for herpes just to know what each of you has (unrelated to this incident). Most people carry HSV-1 (usually cold sores), and there's a possibility that one of you has it and the other doesn't, so if one of you comes up positive for HSV-1 then you should discuss precautions to take during oral sex, if any, if the other doesn't already have oral HSV-1.

Blood tests are conclusive three months post exposure in regards to HSV-1 and HSV-2. If you choose to go that route, you and your partner should be tested for HSV-1 and HSV-2 through an IgG type specific blood test; don't get an IgM test.
