oral AND genital???

i have oral hsv 1 and had sex with someone and about 14 days later had a tingling and irritating sensation on my genitals. no signs of blisters, fluid, itchy, nor swollen labia~ it went away after a couple days. i didnt have insurance so i didnt get tested for herpes but went to PP and got the general clamydia etc and doc says it looked normal, "nice and pink" was what her exact words were actually, 4 months later i got insurance and my vagina started to feel irratable again. could it be in my head? it seems to be irritated for more than 2 weeks and right after my menstrual cycle. again, no blisters nor fluid discharge, i thought the vaginal opening looked red but the doctor said it looked normal. everything came back neg, hsv-2, warts, hiv. so, if i have hsv 1 orally , would i get the flu-like symptoms again if i get it genitally? i didnt have any of those symptoms. thanks

it's not likely to be hsv1 genitally going on.  Continue to follow up on this with your gyn.

so are you suggesting that I cannot have it genitally because i am already possessing the antibodies? All my symptoms are suggestive of it, irritation, slight itch, anal irritation, although I've never had any visible lesions. is it possible that i get only one lesion and it be in my cervix? and what about the prickly feeling i'm having on my outer labia when i touch? ugghhh...

You already knew you had hsv1 so no reason to doubt the results. No reason for more testing if your hsv2 igg was negative.

Was that just a hsv2 igg?  If so it needs confirmed with a 2nd test - either the herpes biokit hsv2 igg or the herpes WB. If your provider uses quest labs the wb is test # 34534.

Okay Grace! I finally got what my test result read from 3 months after the "incident" and the Herpes test was a 3.41
what is the range of this test? like-   0.1- 10?? and what is the max? I guess my question to you is, by the looks of this number 3.41, does it look like a recent exposure? because i've had oral herpes 1 for almost 11 years...thanks grace!

if your regular doctor isn't able to figure out what is going on, get a 2nd opinion elsewhere. As I said, I know how frustrating it is, been there , done that myself and it suck s  :(

I have no tears! it just feels like there are tears! grr... and sometimes prickly on the edge of the outter labia when i lightly run my finger over them..what else could it be?...and i've never ONCE had a lesion. EVER. and i know what they look like cuz i get them in my mouth, and that tingly pins and needles feeling, never on my genitalia but i have the feelings on my face/in my ear if i'm soon to get an OB in my mouth. which when i do, is usually only 1 lesion. i've had orally for about 9 yrs. sorry to keep pestering but seems my dr cant give me any answers and i dont know where else to turn!

Thanks again for all your generous and knowledgeable information! You truly are appreciated.

You need to keep going back to your gyn to try to figure out what is going on. It's frustrating I know - been there, done that. If you are still concerned about herpes, get these tears swabbed within 48 hours of their appearance.  Also the genital skin sometimes thins which makes it tear easily. Even when you are young it can happen.  Sometimes giving the skin etc tlc helps - barrier creams like zinc oxide, a&d, desitin, bag balm, aquaphor etc to help soothe irritated skin as well as protect it.  You sometimes even need prescription estrogen creams to fully heal it and strengthen it. Following up on this with your doctor is the best course of action.

hey grace, i'm following up with you because since our last posts i've been to the dr's again to test for vaginal yeast and bacteria and they all came back negative...but i'm still experiencing irritation, it kind of feels like theres a tear on my cervical opening, and i guess its all the time, some days less if i dont think about it or try not to. It feels uncomfortable when i wear tight pants or when i'm sitting and the crotch of my pants rubs against my vagina and sometimes, and maybe once a month, i have the tear feeling on my anus. are these, to you, symptoms of herpes? i still have not seen any lesions.  whats goin on....  :( Thanks grace.

if 4 months had passed then no reason for continued std testing at this point.

Keep following up with your provider for proper testing for vaginitis and such if this continues. Sometimes it just suck s being female :(

yes, it was unprotected and undesired. i was getting out of a hot tub putting shorts on when he picked me up from behind. i didnt even see it coming- but thats besides the point. i cant go back in time to change it. if only i could just ask him if he's infected.....sigh. Thanks Grace.  It happened over 4 months before I had gotten my (i think it was) HerpesSelect test and hsv2 came up neg. Is 4 months significant amt of time for it to show up?

You'll need to get a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your hsv2 status is. You already know you have hsv1 so no reason to test for that.  Sounds like you need the peace of mind more than anything at this point.

was it unprotected sex you had?

They havent done any testing on secretions for yeast/bacteria, just visual i guess, along w/the general swabbing for std's. Grace, being that I have antibodies from oral HSV 1, do you think that would kind of, reduce the production of ulcers and just present the symptoms? Thanks for all your help, we are all so grateful of this servcie that you provide to us on your own time!

Your providers don't seem to be seeing anything going on so far.  Are they testing your vaginal secretions for yeast and bacteria or just doing a visual exam and nothing else?

I've never had issues such as yeast and bacterial vaginitis. Can this be caused by having sex? I also don't have sex with men under sober circumstances, not to mention havent had sex in over a year when this had happened, he tore my insides and I was bleeding the following 2-3 days lightly. I automatically assumed this person had an infection and then I started to feel discomfort in my region and a couple of times on my anus, like a stinging sensation but breifly. I've never seen any ulcers though, how would i go about diagnosing a bacterial vaginitis?

Lots of things cause vaginal irritation, and its not sounding like yours is being caused by herpes.  Have you been tested for yeast and bacterial vaginitis?
