My 8 year old newf barking

Wilbur is our 8 year old newf. He is the best. We take him every where with us. Within the past few months he has taken to barking every hour just to go out. He doesn't need to potty. He just wants to go out and lay in the yard. We have had a very cold winter in NH.  We do not keep it warm in the house mostly because he doesn't like it to be too warm in here. We can't leave him out all night it's too cold. -20 or close to it isn't safe. He is our life. The odd part is he does not do this when we stay in a hotel. We have tried putting his bed in our room but he doesn't like it. Our room is very small. I've tried making him lay down instead of taking him out. The minute I go back to bed he's up and barking to go out. We are tired.

Hi I noticed no one else had responded yet so I will give it a shot. A Newfy is huge and I imagine can be insistant about what he wants. So I don't know if this will work for him, but it sure worked for my former dog Brandy. She was a mini-dachshund who protected our home well but everytime someone came to the door her warning (bark) wouldn't even stop after I let them in the house. I asked my vet what I could do to quiet her. He said the secret is to interrupt their attention, whatever it is on. He said to take a small container and put about 15 pinto beans in it. I used a Crystal Light can. You might want to go a little larger for your larger dog.
Ex. a small coffee can? 25 pintos? He said when the dog starts barking, walk over to her and shake her can close to her ear. I did it and she immediately stopped barking to see what "that" was. I mean it worked like a charm! Then she just did what she usually does and just starting watching and listening to us. I was amazed because I had warn myself out trying to get her to stop. So I know it sounds goofy but give it a try and please let us know how it goes. Hope it works for you too!
