Is he unfaithful?

I have been with my husband for over 10 years, I have never had an abnormal pap until 2 years ago, my doc said I had HPV and had leisions on my cervix, At first she said they would go away, but 3 paps later I now have to have some type of procedure done because they are getting worse. I have only been with one other person which was 13 years ago, is it possible that my husband is sleeping with someone else whom may have given me this?

You'd have to share more information for us to even offer an opinion on the matter.  Also, even with your most fact filled story, it's still not entirely a good idea to take any opinions we might have here and treat them like gospel truth.  HPV is a difficult virus to predict in all  cases.

I understand women contact this from men. I am married and past cervical screenings and test while pregnant have all come back clean. Does this mean my husband has contracted hpv and passed it to me?

ok Alex, i was just giving my opinion on this matter, as were you, that is after all what this site is for. and yes people who question their partner do indeed have doubts before the diagnosis, but from a female point of view, this bloody virus would do your head in and it is only natural to question EVERYTHING as EVERYTHING seems bizzar at the time, especially given that ladies circumstance. We are all only human after all. We try and find answers and logic in a very fague field of information as im sure you are aware that there is no concrete FACTS about the life cycle or trends of this bizzar virus.
also this ladies doubts were well founded and she has my full sympathy.

Best of luck to you both.

I am in the same boat.  I have been married with children for 13 years. I check my self all the time and when a woman is pregnant ther are more check ups.  Now I have a high risk of hpv.  I would love to take a knife and put it to his throat.  I know he has been  cheating.  I don't understand why people cheat.  Just tell ur partner u want someone else.  I am a woman who would tell her husband she wants to try new dick.  Why are men so ***** to be honest.  So now I would like to kill my husband.  This really does hurt

It happens. HPV can sometimes show up in the form of an abnormal PAP or warts years, even decades after exposure (though the months following are most common). A diagnosis of HPV does not imply that a partner has been unfaithful. I suspect that most people who question their partner had doubts before the diagnosis.

Hey,
Im sorry to hear about your cheat of a husband. i had thought about replying to your question when i first saw it, but as im not a doctor and dont like to judge people i dont know i kept my mouth shut(did see some very strong opinions above). The fact remains that i think you are right..you had a clean pap for years and suddenly it changes????? it is sex that transfers the virus so it doesnt take a master mind to figure out what happened here.

I hope you recover very soon and he gets what he deserves..she will leave him soon anyway as they always do...Carma being what it is.

Mind yourself and take care and i hope you get everything you wish for from the divorce..
the very best of luck.

Worried.

I was told by several doctors that HPV can lay dormaint for years I was recently dx with high risk hpv as well as stage 4 endometriosis. I have been with the same man for 19 years. The question should not be for us did he cheat but rather what can we do to ensure that our high risk hpv will NOT cause cancer. The best advice I can think of is to make sure to have your paps done as soon as it is that time and stay on top of ANY changes that may occur. Good Luck to you all.

The truth can sometimes hurt, but your post is incorrect.

I have been faithful for at least 10+ years (as has she) and my HPV infection flared up because of extreme stress. Nothing is certain. If you believe him, believe him. If you can't trust him, that's another issue. MY HPV infection is in my throat. Does that mean I've been having oral with another woman? Some here would say yes. I can tell you no. The human body is amazing.

Well let me tell you my story, I had a bad pap smear in may of 1995 after being married for 8 years that came back a little abnormal they continued to do a pap smear every six months with each one worse, then i was tested and I had High risk HPV I went to the same doctor for 25years had a pap smear every year never had an abnormal pap until may of 1995 my doctor told me that i got this in late 1994 or early 1995. Then I found out for sure that husband had been cheating on me. My doctor who is a well none gyn with a good track record was right on the money. He was right. So if you have normal pap smears for yrs that are normal up until this one that was bad there is a 99 percent he did cheat. Thats why it is so important that we have our paps every year it will pick up anything even yeast. My doctor told sometimes our bodies will fight it of with in 6months to 2 years so you do math.

I am sorry for you but I can truely say sometimes the truth hurts.

HPV can lay dormant in your body once you have it for a very long time. Researchers are looking at this question but do not yet fully understand how long it can hang around in your body.  Your high risk HPV could have been laying dormant for all the time you've been married. There is no way to know. So don't go jumping to conclusions and blame your husband.  Make sure that you get regular check ups with your doctor and follow her advice.

I know of a male who has had HPV for over 20 years and never has infected his partner until recently. It has been said that  80% of the population has HPV.  teenagers who are sexually active are most at  risk. A person can contract it as a tennager and grow to adult hood and never get an outbreak. A person can have it for 20 years and finally show symptoms. there is lots to learn from this virus. the good thing is that you can live long healthy lives.  Herpes and HPV are similiar in this aspect, most of the population has it.

Its very difficult to blame your partner if you catch HPV, if you have no concrete proof or he claims he never did it is quite possible he is telling the truth. Infact there is a possibility your the one who has it or vice versa. I would sit down with him and have a long talk about how you can combat this mostly non dangerous situation.   Be advised that 90% of the population Hpv leaves the system in  6months to 2 years.  I hope this helps.

HPV can sometimes show up years or decades after exposure. This should not be seen as an indication that your husband has been unfaithful.
