Gardisil and Genital Warts

Hi,

I was diagnosed with genital warts 4 months ago (July 2010), but I'm fairly certain I contracted it in late May/early June when my boyfriend and I decided to go on the Pill and stop using condoms. He got fully tested for STDs before we did this, and so did I, so we thought we would be okay to stop using condoms. Apparently, there is no test for HPV in men, and I contracted it from him even though he didn't have any visible symptoms.

My question is, would it benefit me right now to get the Gardisil vaccine? I know it prevents other strains of the virus, but I'm afraid that getting it might make it harder to get rid of the strain I have now...? I stopped using the Pill, started taking vitamins and using condoms again, and it seems to have help suppress the recurrence of warts. I just don't want to introduce something to my body that might inhibit the progress I've made thus far.

Any advice on this would be helpful. Thanks.

I'm just concerned that if I did get the vaccine that it might make it harder for me to clear this strain...? I'd like to be protected from the others but I'd rather wait for this one to clear first than take the chance.

Relativity I'm curious what is your credentialing?  I would like to know which articles state that vaccine can cause it to be more difficult for body to fight off hpV?  I have come across no such publication.  One publication which I think actually merits the use of Gardisil is a study in Alabama at a womens hospital there, showing even if you had warts or cervical ca, had them surgically removed, Gardisil still offered protection after exposure.

Hello,

Mixed reviews on this. There is evidence that claims the use of the vaccine after being exposed to the virus can make it more difficult for the body to fight it off, and there is evidence showing that it has no effect at all one way or the other. The only agreeable result is that the vaccine does not do anything to remove or impede any previous infection. However, the vaccine will still defend you from any subtype you currently do not have.

My Best,
Rainn
