I appreciate all this info. The problem is I am in college, and I don't think I have any other choice but to get the medical check done by the physician who has my records. So they already know I have (or had?) HPV. So it is not a matter of me revealing it or not.
One solution is to just be upfront about it when I go in to the office, and say that u know, i had the colposcopy, I've had regular and normal pap smears, I'm fine. And the physician might agree. On the other hand, she might be extremely honest, and not want to get into trouble.
or maybe I'll just hold my breath. ~**
I wonder if they mean you can't have overt warts when you travel or something? I could perhaps understand that, but if it's been treated and latent then there's absolutely no reason why this should be an issue. When it's past it's transmittable stage it shouldn't matter anymore. I mean, are they going to hold the fact that I had mono as a teenager against me years later? Haha.
When I see false information from other states (this isn't the first, you should see a lot of Midwestern info), it makes me really glad I live in super sexually enlightened California.
You're right. It really is old information but that's NY for ya. It also only talks about warts, not the high risk type.
I looked up that fact sheet too that New York has. It has a lot of false information, particularly the bit about "a person with HPV is essentially contagious for life". While the old research and information has pointed to this (I saw this report was written in '06 as well), this isn't the case anymore and HPV pretty much "clears" in over 90% of people. They really need to update this, it's completely ridiculous.
I just looked up the communicable disease fact sheets and did see HPV on there. They were talking about the wart causing type of HPV, not the type that you had. If you have genital warts, then that may disqualify you. All it talked about was genital warts.
Don't worry about it. They are talking about mad cow disease or malaria. You don't need to tell them about your HPV b/c in your case it's probably dormant now anyway which means it's not active.
Everyone who has ever been sexually active and over the age of 16 probably has at least one sexually transmitted HPV. It's common place.
It sounds to me like you have an issue with sex and somehow believe that getting HPV means you are promiscuous. There are people on this forum who have only had one partner and they have HPV. Actually there are people with only one partner who get other STD's. I would seek therapy for your emotional issues regarding having HPV.
Hi ,
I googled "communicable diseases" and clicked on the first link titled "Communicable Disease Fact Sheets" compiled by the New York State Dept. of Health. It lists HPV as one of them.
i feel like HPV shouldn't have to affect whether I am qualified for the job or not. I mean, you're right its not like air-borne contagious, and it would presume that I'm sexually promiscuous. but. the terminology, whether HPV is classified as a "communicable disease" scares me because I really want this job.
They are talking about mad cow disease, HIV, malaria. Google communicable diseases.
HPV or herpes are common and part of being human.
