Has anyone cleared the virus by themselves?

I got an abnormal pap 3 years ago.  Since then, it's been off and on clear and back to abnormal.  It's been ASCUS and them also LSIL.  I have to go back to the gyno every 3 months.  More often than not, I get an abnormal result and have to go back for a colposcopy.  I've had more colopscopies than I can count in the past 3 years.  None, so far, have resulted in needing a biopsy taken.  She always looks (during the colposcopy) and says nothing is even showing up, to biopsy.  Last time, she said there were extremely slight cell changes but still nothing she felt was worthy of biopsy.  After 3 years, she still seems convinced that eventually I'll end up getting clear results.  I've asked about the LEEP and she's basically said that's not possible, since nothing is showing up to be removed.  She's said if it does change eventually, she will do a LEEP, but at this point, nothing can be done.

I tested positive also for the type of HPV That produces genital warts. Little did I know that a tiny bump on my outer labia, and tiny bump on my inner thigh (both present for maybe almost a year), were actually warts.  Those were removed along with a few others she found, that I never would have been able to see myself.

It just seems so weird that it's been going on for sooooo long, and if it's so minor, I don't understand why it hasn't cleared.  I was first diagnosed with this at 27 and am now 30.  I don't smoke, I don't drink and I live a healthy lifestyle. I take extra vitamins including folic acid and red marine algae.  The only "bad" thing I do, is stress like CRAZY.  The anxiety over this continues to worsen.

I have abstained from sex this entire time because I don't want anyone else going through this (I am gay and don't sleep with men-never have).  My doctor has told me that this is not necessary especially in my case where it seems "invisible".

I have examined myself (something I never did before all this) and found a few more warts.  I am having them removed.  Doctor also tells me that it's not completely necessary to have them removed. That they are harmless and removal is for cosmetic purposes alone.   She does talk to me and try to ease my worries... she acts like it's seriously all not a big deal at all and shouldn't affect my life in any way, other than having me visit every 3 months and get a coloposcopy following every abnormal.

Sorry for such a long post.  The big and small is that apparently I have two strains that are showing up.  My doctor says "it's just frustrating for you because you happen to have a stubborn strain"  (the warts result has been present for only a little over a year).    Has anyone cleared the virus after such a long period of time?  My immune system can't be TERRIBLE, considering the fact that I rarely get sick and I do not have an autoimmune disease of any kind.

Looking for some hope and peace of mind...  Thanks guys and girls.
Oh and last- I have gone to more than one gyno.  Same thing.

Been a while, but I never saw this comment.  I have kept up with everything. I get the paps and get the colposcopies.  I'm still getting abnormal paps (followed by a colposcopy-however, I have never had a biopsy, because when she performs the colposcopy, she's never found anything to biopsy). That's what is so weird! She hasn't done a LEEP, because the colpos don't even show anything to biopsy...

Hello,
I can understand your concern but the strain of virus causing genital warts is different from the one causing cervical cancer. Scientists now think that the HPV infection that clears up on its own remains dormant in your body.  it can stay dormant or it can come back again.  Why it comes back isn't exactly known.

If the PAP smear has shown high risk HPV, then you need to get a colposcopy and biopsy done. Usually if the biopsy report comes normal, we do smears at regular intervals. If PAP smears come out abnormal then LEEP is done.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
