How did I end up with HPV?

I recently had a colpolscopy and the results came back as a low risk precancerous HPV.... Now I have only been with one person for the last nine years.. how long can you have hpv without it being detected I have had three kids as well as annual paps but it only came up last year as abnormal.... so should I assume that my fiance contracted it to me from somewhere else... ?

Jjcool- see a doctor. Yoko, I never had genital warts until I became pregnant. My precancerous risk turned into warts because of strong cell changes. You are probably okay. I would just be sure to share info with any partners you may decide to have unprotected sex with. There are types that only show up on the cervix, but there are types that show up as warts. Not sure of the exact number of strains out there. Continue to get annual paps, and you should be fine :)

Its so hard to play the "blame" game, when it comes to HPV :( Its possible your partner could have given it to you, but who knows because HPV is so common. I'm not sure if the strains you had in the past could have gone dormant then flared up for some reason...? Its a little fuzzy, all this HPV stuff! I have it and I just deal with it, as I am married and have a baby on the way. The same thing happened to my mom. Years ago, she had a High Risk for cancer then it went away with colposcopy...but it had come back and she had a leep procedure done (coning). And now she's good to go...not the case with me, because mine came back in the form of fully fledged genital warts due to cell changes in pregnancy. Hang in there, and just talk to each other, but don't stress, because this is so common! Good luck to you :)
