No sexual contact for 4 years?

Another question.  Just got married 6 months ago and my wife found out today that she has HPV.  Before her the last time i had sexual relations was 4 years ago.  Is it possible that i got the HPV four years ago and am now giving to my wife? Never had a wart outbreak?  could i still carry the HPV?

her doctor basically said to come back in 8 months and test for it again.  Are you saying that it is possible that she may be cleared of hpv by that time? If it does, does it lay dormant and maybe 3 or 5 or 10 years down the line it returns in her pap test again?

Do we continue to have sex? We were trying to get pregnant? what should we do?

Although it usually presents itself in the months following exposure, sometimes HPV can lay dormant for a while and activate years or even decades after transmission. For this reason, it is nearly impossible to determine when, or from whom, the infection was transmitted. It could have been from you, or possibly a previous partner. Now that she is testing positive for HPV, her immune system should respond and clear the virus within a few months or a couple of years.

Once you have an active HPV infection it usually only last for several months to a couple of years. But sometimes it can take many years after contact for an infection to present itself.
