Very Paranoid

7 Years ago, I developed this 'skin tag' on the base of my penis.  It was very smooth in texture and did not alarm me - in fact, I read that it could have been caused by excessive masturbation.  7 years later, this skin tag hasn't really changed at all (other than it being irritated and turning red temporarily), but I don't know if this is a skin tag or a wart, I guess I'm paranoid because I hear a lot of people get the two confused.

It hasn't changed at all.

Go see a dermatologist asap.  For most people, warts never go away by themselves. For some they do. Condoms do not cover the base of the penis and some men get warts at that spot. Get a doctor's opiniion via an exam. End the suspense. If he thinks its a wart, he should remove it and get it biopsied for HPV. Ask the doctor for the test to identify the strain too. Stop playing detective and see a dermatologist.

I'm playing detective because I do not have health insurance right now - but I think if you offer advice, you should make sure it's correct - from what i've read (peer reviewed journals) warts go away for most people.  I guess I'll ignore this advice, because I expected it to be from a dermatologist, not a regular person who's uneducated in the subject.

And by ignore this advice, I mean, ignore the statement - I'm still going to get it checked by someone who knows what they are talking about - when the time is right.  But it isn't right now.
