Warts/HIV Anxiety

Hi Dr. Hansfield/Hook,

I was recently diagnosed with genital warts (5 weeks ago). I'm having them treated at the local centre for disease control, which is burning them off. For the most part, I believe that the treatment is working. However, when the skin heals after blistering I'll occasionally still see very tiny marks on the skin. I'm not sure if these are the remaining warts, or whether it is scar tissue and I'm merely being obsessive. Is there any definitive way to tell the difference?

Further, since noticing the first round of warts (5 or 6) I've found about one more once a week for the past 3 or 4 weeks. Is it common to still be developing warts this late into treatment? Also, I noticed my first set of warts a week and a half after coming into contact with the girl who I am certain I caught it from. I was abstinent for nearly a year before developing the warts. My doctor who works at the CDC, and is a specialist in stds, believes that I caught it from the girl mentioned above, although my doctor admits the time-line is a little odd. I was wondering what your opinion on this would be. Also, I've been told that my immune system will suppress the virus in roughly a year can you please confirm that this is true? I've been treating the warts for six weeks now (some have disapeared but new ones have popped up), and I feel like it's never going to end.

Finally, the girl that I caught the virus from I did not know very well. I know that she's a 23 year old and an accountant at a major firm in Canada. We used protection and I'm circumcised. But I brushed my teeth a half hour or so prior to meeting up with her and my gums tend to bleed when I brush them. I received unprotected oral sex from her, and performed unprotected oral sex on her. I've had an HIV test and it was negative, but I had it around 3 weeks after we had sex, which obviously isn't the greatest time-frame. I asked her if she had any stds, and she said she was fine; but because she gave me warts I'm now a little neurotic. I recently was sunburned and my face is swelling, which makes it feel as though the glands in my neck are bigger than they should be. Am I being totally insane in presuming I have HIV because of these swollen glands?  I've also had a cough since the night she and I fooled around, but it seems to be gone now.  I haven't had any flue like symptoms or aches or pains.

You are thinking too much about symptoms, it's more psychological, have u s3xy with another girl before her, sometimes warts doesn't come out right away, I was in your situation before, I cried so much and I think everything is falling apart, I had a lot of dreams,I'm in medical field, two bachelor degree in medical field, and I should not supposed to have this, I thought it was a cyst before, until it becomes bigger, because my immune system is down and I'm depressed that time because with my marriage end up.I can't even think, and ignore that, when I finally over him, that's the time I noticed it becomes bigger, warts comes and goes, sometimes they heal by itself if ur immune system is boost.there are some foods that boost your immune system..there are some foods that preventing HPV coming back, HPV is in your system already, but if ur immune system is boost, they will not show up...and I read article that is gone, herbs help, food that rich in Vit C, E, Antioxidant, and take Vit B Complex and more vitamins.
