catherine

Hello,
I contracted genital warts 9 years ago, the lumps were tiny and went away with treatment, they did re-occur the following year went away again with treatment.
I've looked at lots of sites and i'm confused because some say i'll be infected forever and will not be able to have a normal birth if i get pregnant.
Could you tell me because i'm single now and i'm scared to meet someone and plan a future.
Also my vagina looks very dark brown/red and the nurses have told me to put vitamin e on it to clear it up but nothing is happening, i'm 34 and i'm not sure if this as happened since i got the wart virus or it is something that happens with age.
Thankyou. Catherine

Hi catherine i can relate to what you are going though now because I had GW (just one) around my anus 10 years ago i seeked treatment for it and it has been gone since. I have been with my boyfriend for 7 years and thankfully he has not had any so i  am assuming my body probably beat the virus (not cured it bc it does stay with you) but your body learns how to keep it in check. I am now 25 and this happened 10 years ago when i  had sex for the first time with my boyfriend  at that time which said he was a virgin  as i was ( apperantly not true) because the wart then appeared I have been paranoid lately becasue i would like to have a baby in a year or two and i read that pregnancy might make the wart came back. I never said anything to my current boyfriend because when we started dating the wart had been gone for 2-3 years and i thought i was cured, now that i am a bit older i realize that it is a virus and it may just be a dormant state. I actually scheduled an appt with the gyno that treated me back then so i can ask her some questions because since i was only 15 i had no clue of what it actually meant and to be honest my gyno then didnt even make a big deal about it and now i know that it must be a strain of HPV which my gyno never even mentioned to me. I do get my paps every year and thankfully have always been normal. Well i hope this helps.

Theres alot of websites which are very old in their infomation and unfortunatly alot of people look at these sites that say 'you will be contagious forever' and end up staying alone and iv even read people thinking about suicide. Websites such as hpvfaq are awful for this and if you read some posts people on there are very ill informed.

If you have not had any warts for around 8 years (if they reoccured) then i would not worry if i was you. I have friends who had GW and had them frozen off and they have not reoccured and been in several relationships without the girl getting infected.

If you are concerned with anything, go to the doctors and get it checked out so you are not worrying.
