Uneducated and scared

Hi I'm a 24 black female and my doctor just called and don't me I have hpv.. He told me not to worry it's not serious and I can continue on with my life.. My pap came back clear so that's a good sign too.. It can turn into cancer but it's rare.. I'm a nervous wreck can anyone give me some advice or reassurance on this subject please?

Don't be scared. 8 out of 10 sexually active adults have it too. Most have the low risk strains. Some have the high risk for cancer strains. Just keep getting tested every year for the rest of your life. If it returns, procedures can be done to remove the pre-cancerous cells.

It is up to you to decide whether to tell future partners of your diagnosis or not. Most doctors advise not to say anything because nearly everyone has it (although 50% of the people who have it do not know). Men cannot be tested for it and they are usually carriers.

Please educate yourself on this disease and lead a healthy monogamous life. The link below will provide guidance.
