I have a complicated medical situation and need advice as to whether I should press the issue or should allow things to take their course. I am not seeking diagnosis -- only an opinon if I should push my medical providers. A few days ago I felt as if I was getting my menstrual flow and felt the normal gassy bloating feelings I often get. I ended up double over in pain violently vomiting with explosive diarrhea -- and eventually noticed a few hours later that I in fact did not have my period but was bleeding from my rectum. I waited about 12 hours and after it got steadily worse I opted to go to a local urgent care center who did an initial exam, found no mass in my rectum area but suggested I follow up with my family physician for a colonoscopy. During this time I got my actual period - at which time any and all bleeding from my rectum has STOPPED. Since I had my period now and am anxious to get the colonoscopy, I started googling to see if having menstruation during a colonoscopy is a problem and started coming up with information indicating my bleeding may be caused by intestinal endometriosis. As a teenager I had VIOLENT reactions to getting my period -- including vomiting diarrhea constipation hot/chills near fainting etc. I also have a family history of uterine cancer. my mother's mother ( grandmother ) was diagnosed with this at age 36. She birthed two children breach. I myself have had no children was on birth control up until age 34 when the vaginal dryness and other hormonal changes got to be too much. Since being off birth control I have slowly noticed symptoms of my teenage menstrual reactions returning, but nothing this sever until now and NEVER any rectal bleeding.
My question -- I am being scheduled for a colonoscopy. I called my OB GYN who stated he will not see me without the colonoscopy being done first to rule out any issue with the colon. From what I am reading, a colonoscopy will be a waste of my time. Given my family history and my medical history I am wondering if I should seek a different opinion.
any input would be appreciated
