You do needa pap smear to be done either yearly or twice a year..depends on family history and your risk factors like smoking weight etc....it is to check for vaginal cancer,,sometimes the cervix is retained in hysterectomys then the need for paps increases.

I am having a hysterectomy done the 27th and am curious...What do your gyno say on this?
thank you all for the info. I really appreciate it!!
I'm going to call a GYN to make appt.
When I asked my gyn about having paps done she said if you have had abnormal paps in the past you should continue to have them done yearly. I would definately talk to your gyn and not your GP about this tho.
I also have had a hysterectomy many years ago and have been told I do not need a pap smear. However certain situations would possibly make it necessary.
I contacted HIV at work and was told by my specialist that I need to get one due to all f the genital herpes/warts. So actually get one after 13 years without one.
I would consider having one with your famiy hx but would contact your gyn doc.
Prayers are being sent your way.
Hi,
Very good question, its a contraversial one too, I had a total hysterectomy as you amd have choosen not to get pap smears, I dont think being on or not on meds has anything to do with choice.
Smoking, being over weight, any family history of vaginal cancer would factor into pap smear or not...basically it is your choice, discuss it with your gyn..not your GP.
It is possible to get vaginal cancer. It would be detected via pap smear.
Its been 5 years since my surgery and I am thinking latley of getting one, my gyn did advise a yearly pap, like many women its something I do not look forward to, however it is better to be safe than sorry.
I hope this helped, if you'd like you can pm me anytime.
Best wishes.
Cherie
