Should I go for hysterectomy

I'm 55 old and had my last period 6 years ago. Recent transvaginal sono shows endometrial stripe measuring 9.6mm in double layer thickness. The stripe is suboptimally visualised due to fibroid. Uterus is enlarged measuring 6.3*5.7*6.1 cm. Tot uterine volume 115cc. There is a posterior intramural fibroid 3.9*3.8*2.9 cm. The remainder of the myometrium is heterogeneous. The left ovary contains a 3 cm simple cyst (the measurement of the cyst is 3.8*2.5mm in CT scan). No fluid in cul-de-sac. Right ovary is normal 2.2*1.3*1.2cm.

CT scan of the lung shows 8 scattered bilateral noncalcified pulmonary nodules (largest one 8mm) and says metastatic desease can not be ruled out.. My younger sister has been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer recently. My grandmother died of cancer (cervical probably). My paternal uncle also died of cancer in the mouth.

I'm not bleeding now - my period ended abruptly 6 years ago - I had very light bleeding 2 years ago for a day or two. i had laparascopy for endometriosis 13 years ago.

Wondering whether I should go for hysterectomy instead of doing one after another scans/sonograms. My next test which is sonohysterogram w transvaginal,  is scheduled this Friday.

Thanks a lot for your advice.

I agree with Madge it is a personal choice but it sounds like it might be the best option for you.

I sure would to reduce cancer threat, but thats a personal choice for you and your doctor to make.  You should go into the expert forum and ask a doctor. Good luck!
