6cm Uterine Fibroid?

Hello,

I recently had a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound performed and my OBGYN told me that the main issue is a 6cm (approx.) fibroid on the fundus of my uterus. After reading the results myself I don't see where it says this information on the report, as it looks to me like the 6.6 x 4.5cm size given in the report is relating to the size of the uterus, not the size of the fibroid in question. Furthermore, the report goes on to say that the largest (fibroid) is 1.9 x 1.5 x 1.5cm.

Could someone with knowledge in this area please offer me their interpretation of the results? Thank you.

The report reads as follows:

The uterus is retroverted and has a non-homogeneous internal echo pattern. It measures 6.6 x 4.5cm at the fundus. There are multiple small fibroids, the largest is posterior measuring 1.9 x 1.5 x 1.5cm.

The double layer of the endometrial lining measures 1.2cm in thickness.

Both ovaries are seen.
The right ovary measures 4.2 x 4.1 x 3.3cm and contains a cyst measuring 3.2 x 2.9 x 2.8cm.

The left ovary measures 3.1 x 2.4 x 2cm.

No pelvic mass or fluid collection is demonstrated.

OPINION:
Myomatous uterus. Right ovarian cyst. Follow up in 2-3 cycles is recommended.

this sounds almost exactly like me. I do not have an ovarian cyst but I do have multiple fibroids. they did measure your uterus and from what they saw you only had fibroids no other mass or fluid to cause further investigation.  They are going to remeasure in a few cycles to see if they get larger. I am pregnant and they are measured regularly. Well I can tell you this much - if they are not causing you discomfort outside of a heavy period I wouldnt mess with them. If they get larger or cause discomfort then your doctor will probably suggest a procedure or option to remove them or make them smaller. If you havent had children then I would talk to your doctor to ensure that your fibroid locations will not effect growth of a baby.

Hi there, I can try to help, I understand the terms, but I must remind you Im not a dr nor trained to read reports..

I can do my best to help you understand some of this but I think you should probably seek clarification from dr also.

Ok,,,here goes !! Agree the forementioned size appears to be uterus, not fibroid. Retroverted uterus is comonly known as tiltied uterus,,it tilts towards spine. Not uncommon. the largest fibroid is in the back portion of uterus..this plus a tiltied uterus leads me to think your having some back pain,,,right? Non Homogenous means not equal on both sides,

7.8 cm ± 1.2 cm is norms for endo thickness.

not uncommon for one ovary to be larger than other , it makes sense one w cyst is larger,,needs vascular component for cyst. My ovarian cyst was about same size...Its considered ,,for lack of better words a medium ovarian cyst.

no mass or free fluid is very good. big indicator of much less chance of malignancy.

Myomatous indicates a begnine fatty cell tumor, sound as if dr wishes to see you again in 2- cycles

advice....journal.

write down symptoms. pain levels, any spotting etc,,,,it will help Dr greatly,

It appears you definatley are takig proper steps to take good care of self, I dont think you need fear the worst, it is possible you may be looking at a surgery,,options are available to avoid this also,,,try them first.

best wishes
Cherie
