SurgeryScheduled finally

Just wanted to give everyone an update. I finally have surgery scheduled for June 6th. I have been dealing with pain I mean constant pain. My stomach is all swollen from this cyst that on my ovary. It needs to come out. I look like i am  pregnant. So i did all my labs and pre adm stuff and I take my fleets stuff i guess it to make me poop all day and then an enema that night then off to the cutting yard friday. I have been terrified of having this surgery. IF anyone can share their stories of the day they had surgery and when they woke up I would love to hear it. I dont know what to expect so im really scared. I have had some good people on here helping me out that have been thru it so that really helped in my decision to do this. You guys did it so i guess i can do it too.....

thanks in advance

Hey Roshelle!

I got your message. You will do fine I am sure of it :-) I do remember I had some pain in my right shoulder for a few days afterwards - was told it was gas. It wasn't painful, just annoying. What time is your surgery? I've been thinking about you since you told me you were having the surgery. I just haven't answered any of my messages because I've been sick with some sort of cold and it's been making me feel miserable and tired. How are they doing the surgery? LAVH? Just curious because I had the LAVH and was only in the hospital for one night - went home the next afternoon after lunch. Also I was wondering if your doctor and surgeon would use a "pain ball"? They insert a small tube into your stomach (while you're still asleep of course) that is attached to a "pain ball" and that ball did wonders for the pain! It's actually pain medication and it automatically injects the medication into you on it's own. Because of that I really didn't need to take any Motrin or Tylenol. This ball only lasts for about 3 days and I got to be the lucky one LOL and pull the tube out of my belly myself. Nothing to it and I'm the biggest baby in here - LOL. I should have been like Sharon and wrote down my hyster experience.

I'll be thinking of you!

Love ya,
Kathy

Not that bad! Don't remeber a thing. Went to sleep and pretty much woke up when being transferred from one bed to the bed in the room. I do remember a nurse saying, in recovery, if I would quit moving it might not hurt so bad. It is the first few days of recovery that is rough. Take the pain meds and get up when they tell you and you'll do great. I had a big tumor/hyst. Almost 3 weeks post op and walked about 3 miles today. (Results not typical :). the gas pains as one above mentioned was painful but when you start getting up and walking it helps a tremendous amount.
Best regards

Hey Roshelle, :)

You sound JUST LIKE I DID when I was faced with surgery.  I said the same thing to myself, "if they all can do it I guess I can too".

I keep meaning to post my after surgery information in my journals and haven't.  I guess it's about time I do that, because it'll sure be easier than re-writing it every time I need to share it.  LOL

I'll go do that now, but YOU WILL DO FINE.............  I'll mark my calendar and I'll be thinking of you on Friday.  What time is your surgery?  I just had my 6 week check up on Thursday May 29th, so I didn't have my surgery too long ago.  I'm GLAD I did it and I know you will be too.

Blessings to you and keep us posted.  Sharon

I am also scheduled for surgery on June 6 due to a 16 cm ovarian cyst and a 7 cm uterine fibroid.  I will be having a total hysterectomy.  I'm having all the same symptoms as you and am so anxious to get this done and also having a laparotomy due to previous intestinal surgeries.  I'm actually having two surgeons - my gyn and a general surgeon to watch over my bowel problems.

The key is to listen to your doctors and nurses - walk to relieve gas, use a pillow to hold your abdomen when you move and rest a lot when you are home.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Hi
I had a full hysterectomy 2 weeks ago and was under general.  I ended up having a laparotomy given that I had extensive adhesions and endo in many places.
I am still in some pain (my incision is vertical which is more painful) but starting to feel better each morning.
I was in the hospital for 3 nights.  One thing I will say is do not underestimate how intense the gas pains are - worse for me than the incisional pain.    They'll encourage you to get up and walk as soon as you're able to get things moving.
I had to do a bowel prep the day before too.
The fatigue has been pretty intense as well so plan on alot of rest afterwards (which is not always easy) and stay on schedule w/ the pain meds as sometimes you feel so good you think you don't need the med and then the pain hits hard and it is that much harder to control.
Good luck
