bowel movement

I have been diagnosed as having IBS. One of the main symptoms is the frequent urge to have a bowel movement. In my case it is usually after meals. My question is what to do during these times, especially when I am in a situation where I cannot immediately get to a restroom. Is it better to stop what I am doing and find a place to have a bowel movement or try and take my mind off it and wait until a more convenient time? In other words, is ti better to go when I feel the need or try and get through it and not go every time I feel the urge?

My advice is to go to the restroom if you have the urge and your situation will allow it.  Waiting will only make your feelings worse. Whenever away from home, make note of restroom locations ahead of time wherever you are, in case you have need for one.  If you have been diagnosed with IBS, has your doctor prescribed a digestive relaxant such as Bentyl?

have u tried anti-spasmatics for this -u could talk to your doc about it --or ear smaller meals low in fats so instead of 3 big meals eat 6 through out the day.
