perhaps they mean that the nodes are of normal size, but the nodes are 'lighting up' on the PET - which means they are taking in more of the radioactive sugar than would be usual. They take up more of the radioactive sugar (FDG) because the tissue is more active than usual and therefore it is using more glucose fuel.
What is the SUV (Standardized Uptake Value) for the nodes? An SUV can be elevated because of cancer, that's true - but also from an infection which makes the nodes work harder doing their regular job.
I am not sure- but if you are concerned maybe you can ask for a second opinion....
Not to be noisy- but symptoms lead you to get check out for cancer..
