I would absolutely not take anything, supplements easily included, without checking with my hepatologist. Please make sure she does!
hi. i agree with KjFlicka,go see a hepatologist.and a GI dr. don't take anything without approval of doctors, also stay away from alcohol, tylenol products, get second and third opinions also don.t give up. godbless you jr1963
Tylenol is fine - just not more than 2 grams per day and less is always better. I use the 375 mg tablets and take 2. My transplant center advised only Tylenol and this was both pre-transplant and post-transplant.
People can be scared of Tylenol because of the stories they've heard and it can be quite liver toxic in high doses but so are most pain relievers.

Excess protein can be quite taxing for your liver and dealing with ammonia byproducts of said. Theres nothing wrong with a good diet - just the right "good diet". As for supplements, seems some docs are on the fence, - like "milk thistle" for example. My hepatologist said in pill form its basically useless and "biounavailable" - but in the IV form (legal outside the US) it can be lifesaving.
Ask the doc about whats good and whats bad - the cause of the cirrhosis will have some bearing on what she should eat - and avoid.
Thanks for the info. Do you know if milk thistle in form IV is readily available @ health food stores etc in the U.S and is a prescription required?
In I.V. Form it is not an FDA approved medication. One would have to look outside this country for it. I do know that it has been allowed compassionately as an experimental treatment for those in fulminant failure from toxic overdoses of poisons - (where timing is super critical). I cant recal it's trade name, but it is sold by a Belgian company and they do have a US affiliate. Google search a bit and if you strike out, holler at me and I will look. (key words amanita death cap, milk thistle)
