When bile retention is present, patients will show following symptoms:
1. Jaundice is yellowing of the eyes and skin and is the first symptom of bile retention. When serum bilirubin increases and secretion of urine bilirubin is out of balance, jaundice starts to show up. The degree of jaundice can be described from golden yellow, yellowish green, dark brown to deep dark green. This degree of change is related to the advancement of liver disease, which is also indicated when the urine turns to be dark brown, and at the same time, stools become pale and sometimes clay color.
I agree with KjFlicka; get tested for Hepatitis. Also, ask you doctor about checking your serum bile acid levels and your bile ducts for blockage.
If you test positive for Hep C,
1) get vaccinated for Hep A and Hep B because you do not want to get co-infected with those other types.
2) Take Hep C very seriously, and do NOT drink alcohol or smoke; alcohol is a well known liver toxin; hepatitis causes inflammation of the liver, and drinking alcohol is like throwing gas on a flaming fire.
Have you been tested for hepatitis a, b, and c?? If it happened once for about a month then went away, I'd bet it was somthing like that.
