MRSA, pneumonia and pre-liver tranplant

HI Dr. Schiano,
Rene has been admitted twice to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with pneumonia (the first time) and now, with MRSA related lung condition.  He is being treatd with Vancomyzion and Zofyn.
Naturally this compromises his transplant, but I am very worried about the implications in terms of him being able to fight this off, and get better for his transplant.
We have a living donor who is very close to getting the go-ahead from the team.
What should we expect in terms of his liver condition and now a lung condition??

As I understand this MRSA is easily contracted through hospitals and he's been in and out getting 'tapped' to remover fluids often.
I am very worried.
Thank so much for any information about his you can offer,
Lucia

lucia, this is indeed concerning.  Does dr liu and the sinai team know about this?  we need to make sure that any fluid rene may have in his lung is not infected as this can easily happen.  hopefully he will have full recovery.  MRSA can definitely be acquired during frequent hospital visits.

think its a good idea to let his parents' doctor know about the MRSA with regard screening. He hopefully will get over the MRSA.  more problematic when in the blood.

Hi,
I am assuming that he indeed has an infection  in his lungs since he was told he had MRSA.  As I mentioned, they have placed him on some powerful anitbiotics.

My question was more related to: what is  a typical prognosis getting over MRSA when you  have a liver condition?

I believe the TMJH transplant team is in touch with the Mt. Sinai team.

Also: Rene' lives with his parents in their home.  They both (his parents) came down with bronchitis (last week)  and they still currently have it.  Shouldn't they be getting screened from MRSA as a precaution?

Thanks again, I appreciate your help.
